A self-indulgent AU to cope with the hellish preview for Chameleon. Or more accurately in my case, in coping with reading the summary of the preview, because I’m a coward who can’t bring myself to watch Marinette go through all that.
Yes, I know to give the episode in question a chance before making final judgments. We’ve been mislead before, but the preview just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Rather than rant about it though, I decided to come up with a happy and positive AU.
SO! Here are some characters from other canons that I think Marinette would be BFFs with in one of those LiveJournal RP Games or crossovers. I don’t have any hard specifics nailed about when and where these characters would meet, just what their friendships would be like. Like, regardless of what world they’re in, they are Best Friends, that’s the only rule. I may or may not write some oneshots for these, IDK. I’m gonna try real hard not to spoil anything from whatever canons I pick, so my reasons are gonna be short and to the point. Also, maybe I’ll write some scenarios with these picks, IDK this is just for fun.
Colette Brunnel (Tales of Symphonia)
A literal fucking angel. Also my avatar.
Colette is one of the sweetest, most well-intentioned characters ever. She’d do anything to save her world, no matter how much of a burden it is for her. From a young age, she’s taken on the responsibility of being a Chosen One, and I think these are all qualities she and Marinette could bond over.
I see the two of them going around Paris or wherever, Colette taking the time to name all of the cute dogs, and Marinette drawing and making accessories to dress them up with. Colette can also relate to Marinette about pushing aside feelings for everyone else’s convenience until it gets really bad and noticeable. They’d have a little support group and just let each other cope with negative feelings.
Amu Hinamori (from Shugo Chara!)
Yes, I know, another angel. Sort of.
Considering the similarities between ML and SC, this shouldn’t be a surprise. Amu and Marinette have so much in common. In the beginning, they don’t have many friends and have to gain some confidence in themselves. They both freak out about their introduction to magical girlhood. They’re both up against middle aged men who take advantage of the emotions of young children/teenagers. They both end up meeting a super famous musician that they end up fighting at some point and then befriending. They both have a lot on their plates and are trying their best in coping with everything that’s thrown their way. They would relate to each other so much, is what I’m saying.
I can imagine these two venting their problems with one another, talking about boys and fashion, going shopping and just cheering each other on. Ugh, what a great and wonderful friendship, I’m so glad it exists now!
Annie Eilenberg (from Atelier Annie: Alchemists of Sera Island)
Annie is kind of the opposite of Marinette, at least initially. She starts off very, very lazy, only determined to do well in alchemy so she can win a big contest, marry the prince of her country and never have to work again. Despite that, Anne is actually a very nice person and a great friend, especially to Fitz (a tsundere character that absolutely adores her), Gillian (best seen when Annie learns of Gillian’s history with her father and decides to help smooth out her tense relations at work) and Hans (in particular, the scene pictured above, where she takes him out to the Basin to get to know him better, and DOESN’T laugh at him for voicing some personal stuff). Annie does grow up over the course of the game (there’s only one route where she doesn’t but there’s like six others where she does) and becomes more responsible without losing her laid back and caring attitude. She does have a bit of sass, but considering the people she knows, that’s not surprising.
I think both girls would mutually admire the other’s talents. They’d probably do a lot of commissions for each other. Annie complains at least once or twice throughout the game that her outfit is highly unattractive, so she would definitely go to Marinette for some fashion advice. In return, Anne happily synthesizes anything that Marinette asks, and sometimes just makes things for her to show her how much she appreciates her (kind of like how she does for Hans).
ALTERNATIVELY: I think Fitz would also benefit from a friendship with Marinette. The poor girl could use some more friends, especially closer in age to her (she’s about 14 when the game ends), and while she’s a bit stubborn, I think Marinette’s kindness would win her over. Fitz would then proceed to be the most loyal friend ever and mellow out a bit.
I’ll probably add onto this later, but I absolutely love the idea of Marinette hanging out with these cool girls and being BFFs with all of them. If anyone has any suggestions, I’d love to hear them!
