Don’t know if this analogy was made before but...
Do you remember in school when we’d all be chatting in class and then suddenly someone burst out laughing & the teacher would tell us all to shut up? Then we'd shut up and then some people would start murmuring again and then the teacher gives the whole class break punishment because those few people made noise.
I think the ''all men are trash'' movement is like that. Yeah guys were misogynistic because that was the norm and women started speaking up and telling guys to knock it off and some of the decent ones actually did, but a few self-centred little bastards decided they didn't care what women thought and continued their shitty ways and women were like ''alright we've told you enough times we didn't like this and you STILL do it - that's it. you're all just pieces of shit ain't it?''
Going back to my analogy, after the teacher gave the whole class punishment some of the kids who were actually quiet start getting defensive. ‘’Why do all of us have to get punishment? I wasn’t even talking, I swear!’’ Then the teacher turns around and says ‘’Well if you didn’t want to get punished you would have told the others who made the ruckus to zip it like everyone else’’.
And that same thing happens here. As soon as women go ‘’all men are trash’’ good guys start saying stuff like ‘’not all men’’ and then women go ‘’well then why don’t you tell your sexist friends to stop their shit if you know better’’.
In the classroom scenario, the kids who were quiet would all be upset that the ones who made noise got all of them in trouble and some might think the teacher’s just a big fat meanie for not punishing the wrongdoers and leaving the rest of the innocent ones alone. But in their next class when those noise-makers start their shenanigans the rest of the class turns around to tell them that they don’t want to get in trouble again for their shit. So those loudmouths shut up and act bitter the rest of the lesson and no-one gets in trouble.
That’s kind of what’s supposed to happen here. When other actually decent men see that there are some shitty guys doing horrible stuff to women they’ll tell them to stop because they’re bringing their name down. If enough men do it soon those sexist cunts will be forced to keep their demoralising ways inside them and will be bitter about not being free to be horrible people. Then there’ll be no reason for women to say ‘’all men are trash’’ anymore.
