Right when Ruby places a hand on Oscar's shoulder, you could see his blush darken for a second before fading away. Even though we didn't get much Rosegarden material this episode (with the exception of Oscar siding with Ruby on her point on what Salem wants and of course the shoulder touch), I'll take for what I can get! What about you?

…Wait…what? Hold up, I need to rewatch that scene like real quick.

Holy shit on a biscuit! I thought you were shitting me anon-chan. I genuinely was about to pull a Hawkeye in Endgame and tell you to not give me hope because I’m still salty that Ruby didn’t hug Oscar. Although it was sweet that she was the one to go find him out in Mantle with Weiss and Maria and the one to greet him first when she arrived and the first person to really comfort him after he was found. So while we didn’t get a hug, it was cute to see Ruby’s relief of having found Oscar safe and sound both on the ship and when they arrived back at the bar.

Now regarding the point you made about Oscar’s blushing---Oh my gosh! I’m actually shocked that you’re right. No for real, it’s there. I saw it with my own two eyes. Yes I had to literally look very close to see it but…it’s there. It’s ACTUALLY THERE! Someone needs to GIF it. It’s there.

It’s quick and you would honestly miss it the first time if you weren’t focusing too much but, yeah, there is a point where Oscar’s flushed cheeks do deepen when Ruby places her hand on his shoulder to reassure him. That’s…interesting.

Oh please don’t let this be an animation or texturing error. If so, I will cuss so loud, you will hear my profanity from the below the Equator.

But in all seriousness…that IS interesting? I don’t want to read too much into it. I really, really don’t but what I will say is that that IS VERY interesting that Oscar did blush. Like I said, it’s quick but it’s actually there. It’s not one of those odd moments where it’s just a fan altering the screenshot. It’s there.

Wow~Like I said I don’t want to read too much into it. Admittedly, Oscar was behaving a bit funny with Ruby this episode. Like he seemed a bit more uncomfortable around her. Not necessarily jumpy but something else that I can’t put my finger on. I think distracted is the word I might be looking at. But like I said, not reading much into it. The only way I’ll be forced to is if this is followed up somehow in the next episode or next time we see Oscar with Yang, Ren and Jaune.

But for now, like you, I guess I’ll take what I can too but…REAAAAALLLY trying NOT to read too much into anything the show does with RG unless they do something to make it official that a future romance is the direction they are going in for these two smaller, more honest souls, y’know what I mean?

so now there a big theory going around twitter you tube an tumbler that the grim that took oscar is summer ,an it be like red riding hood mom be coming the big bad wolf ,what do you think of this theory

I’ve been hearing this theory floating around too anon-chan. And while at first I didn’t really think much of it, after more thought, I find it highly fascinating. However at the same time, not sure if I want it to be canon. Not saying that it’s a terrible idea. It’s just that personally, I’m not really too big on any theory that suggests that Summer Rose may be still be alive. The show has dragged out the mystery surrounding Summer’s death for so long that at this point, if she is revealed to be alive in some shape or form, it’ll end up leaving the same impression on me as I felt with Penny’s return for V7. I’ll feel like it’ll undermine Ruby’s development and feelings regarding her mother up until this point.

So in that light, I don’t want George to be revealed to be Summer Rose in the sense that she’s still alive.

However I DO like this idea for the obvious twist it can present. Therefore, I’d like to add my own spin on it, if you don’t mind.

 What if…George the Greyhound Grimm is more akin to the Cluster from Steven Universe? 

In Steven Universe, the Cluster was an amalgamation of many gems that were shattered by the Diamonds and forced to become a part of these huge planet-sized experiment that was meant to result in the destruction of Earth.

So what if…the Hound is the same? 

What if…the Hound isn’t just Summer Rose but an experiment born from fusing Grimm essence with the remains of not one but multiple Silver Eyed Warriors that Salem has killed and collected over the years to create this shapeshifting beast that’s more intelligent from any Grimm our heroes has faced so far and may even be immune to the Silver Eyes because this creature was made from the remains of Silver Eyed Warriors...if that makes sense?

So looking at it this way, I only  like the Hound idea being Summer Rose in the event that it leads to revealing what happened to all those Silver Eyed Warriors that Salem killed over the years. Back in V4, Watts stated that the villain circle dealt with SEW in the past.

So I think it would be pretty interesting if Silver Eyed Warriors were used to create this new species of Grimm that Salem made with George---a species that was far more intelligent. Superior in every way than anything made by the God of Darkness. Not to mention that it could provide some well-deserved angst on the part of Ruby where she’ll be forced to use her eyes against a creature that’s essentially what’s left of her mother with the very power she inherited from her. Looking at it from that perspective, it’s fascinating.

Like I said, I don’t want Summer Rose to be revealed to still be alive. I would rather she stay dead. 

Hoooooowever…. I do like the angle of Salem killing Summer Rose, gorging out her eyes (since the Hound is blind---he has no eyes) and then using the remains of her corpse to craft herself an intelligent Grimm capable of human speech and may even be immune to the Silver Eye power, who knows?

That way, in a sense---if the Hound is Summer then technically, it ISN’T her. Technically, the Hound was just made from what was left of Summer. Her corpse. The Hound could be a remnant of Summer Rose. 

It could be present a really cool scenario where Ruby is fighting the Hound and all of sudden, it stops before Ruby and starts to speak her name…almost as if…it knows her?

If you’ve ever watched Fullmetal Alchemist, remember that chilling moment where Ed discovered what happened to Nina?

 “…Big brother Edward…”

Picture a moment like that…but with Ruby. Like imagine…Ruby shows up to save Oscar, guns ablazing only to freeze on the spot when she encounters the Hound and it starts to speak her name…in the voice of her very own mother. 

Even worse…if it was later revealed to Ruby by Salem herself that her mother’s own dead body was used to create the Hound...along with many, many more victimized Silver Eyed Warriors. 

Like some Frankenstein beast forged from both Grimm and Silver Eyed Warriors to essentially create a beast stronger than both Grimm and Silver Eyed Warrior.

 A hybrid. 

Or something like that. When I look at the Hound theory from THAT angle, I like this version more.

I don’t want the Hound to be revealed to be Summer Rose alive but what’s left her…the part of her that was used along with many other Silver Eyed Warriors that Salem had harvested over the years to forge a new kind of monstrosity against humanity.

Yeah. That’s better. I like that better =) But that’s just me.

what do you think ruby and oscar will name their kid,or kids if they have them one day ?

Once upon a time, I was asked by fellow FNDM fam @keyenuta regarding my thoughts for the future children of the Rosegarden pair and I shared a Pinehead headcanon on it that could be found right here. Originally my version of the Rosegarden kids consisted of three kids--- Scarlett (age 19) Oliver (age 17) with the youngest Pinerose sibling being Ivy (at age 13, I believe).

But as of recent times, I’ve added a fourth child to the mix who I dubbed Ozma II and made the eldest of the kids (at age 22 or somewhere around there) in place of Scarlett since I liked the concept of Oscar naming his firstborn son after his original self from a forgotten time as a sort of homage to him in a sense.

So yeah, those are my interpretations of the Rosegarden kids.

There are two readings of the little prince's death,, it's either him dying for real cuz of the snake or the child in him dying,,, at least that's what i remember

Oooh that’s interesting anon-chan. I didn’t know about that bit so thanks for letting me know. I actually like the reading of the snake bite representing the child in the Little Prince dying. That makes me think of loss of innocence as a child’s perception of the world around them changes as they grow up. Basically it makes me thing of the transition from childhood into adulthood.

This is fascinating to me since it makes me think of what Oscar is going through right now in his story for RWBY. Oscar is a young boy on the cusp of manhood. He is at a tender age where he is expected to mature quickly given the responsibility and role he’s inherited as the current incarnate of the God’ champion Ozma and Ozpin’ successor.

After the V7 finale, I dubbed Ironwood as the Snake in Oscar’s little prince story. After Ironwood shot Oscar to his death, I noticed a change in his demeanour after Oz came back and aided him with Ozma’s memories.

Going off of that, you can almost say that Oscar’s encounter with Ironwood was like the snake bite from the Little Prince---I can look at it as Oscar, not necessarily losing his innocence but more so putting aside any bit of child-like naivety he might’ve had in place of a more serious and mature outlook on how he plans to move going forward.

And you can say that this is reflected in the firm stance he takes with Ozpin after he returned. As much as I didn’t quite like that angle of Oscar withholding the truth about Oz coming back from the team at first, now that I’ve had more time to think about it, it makes me appreciate how he isn’t quite done letting Oz off the hook as yet despite helping him.

As a matter of fact, I quite admire Oscar’s choice to not reintegrate Oz back into the group until Oscar himself is comfortable with this choice.

While I dislike Oscar keeping Oz on the hush-hush from the others given his experiences with the repercussions of one keeping too many things close to the chest. Hooooowever…I do like that angle of Oscar essentially telling Oz that he’s not going to let him just waltz back into the picture as if the events of V6 didn’t happen either.

“You and I aren’t done talking yet.”

Ohohoho how the tables have turned. The child is now acting as the adult in this scenario. To me, I just appreciate the mature approach Oscar is taking with Oz here. In his absence, the group have all come to care for Oscar as an ally they can all trust outside of his shared connection to Ozpin.

And because the others trust Oscar, I like how he is almost playing gatekeeper here. It’s like watching a group of friends where someone left the inner circle after hurting the group and there’s that one friend in the circle who’s still with the group but is also on good terms with the one that left. And now that that person who left has returned, the middleman friend has to basically play advocate for both sides to ensure a smooth reconciliation; if that makes sense.

While Oscar is willing to listen to Oz and hear him out, like I said, he’s not going to let the others know of this until Oscar himself feels comfortable with Oz being back.

When Oz left, he didn’t just abandon the group. He essentially left Oscar too---left him to figure out a lot of things without his guidance as well as take the brunt of the blows for the mistakes Oz made. I think in the end, Oscar will definitely help Oz reconcile with the others. It’s just that right now, he’s more prioritizing him and Oz finally working through the bugs in their relationship first so that they---as in the two halves of the Man with Two Souls---can finally be on the same page for once since their lack of synergy and trust in one another contributed to the problems they are still having currently, y’know what I’m saying?

So yeah, if this is how the showrunners are going to handle Oscar and Oz’s bond for this season then this squiggly Pinehead and Ozpinhead is definitely looking forward to seeing it play out.

Not expecting much RG this volume, I do hope there's some kind of scene that sets up some some realization or new interactions in V9 though

Fair enough anon-chan. For the most part, what I’d mostly like to see from V8 that’s Rosegarden-related is:

Ironwood letting it slip to RWBN_P that he killed Oscar and seeing Ruby’s reaction to that; particularly if it makes her think back to the way her mother allegedly passed away leading to more development for Ruby regarding her repressed emotions over her mother’s death.

Yang and Oscar discussing Ruby while they’re together down in Mantle with Jaune and Ren.

 A reunion hug between the rosebuds when Ruby and the others discover that Oscar is alive and safe. The CRWBY showrunners teased many hugs for this season so as a Rosegardening Pinehead, I’d appreciate it if one of those hugs went to Oscar, either him receiving a hug or giving a hug to someone he cares about, like Ruby.

 Salem threatening to kill Ruby (and the others) leading to Oscar surrendering himself over to Salem in order to save her life. The show has always highlighted Ruby looking out for Oscar so it’d be interesting if we got a parallel of Oscar protecting Ruby, particularly if it means him sacrificing himself over to Salem if it would mean helping his friends since as he said back in V6, Oscar is willing to do everything he can to help with the time he has left so if that means handing himself over to the enemy then I’d believe that’s something he would nobly do without question.

I want V8 to end on Oscar becoming Salem’s prisoner leading to a potential plotline where Ruby has to lead a rescue team to save him. But this is just something that this squiggly Pinehead would like to see happen in the canon. Not sure if it will but, we’ll see for V8.

Do you think yang an ruby will have a bigger fight after ruby learns oscar gone?

Hmm to be honest with ya anon-chan, while it wouldn't surprise me if that happened, I actually want to hold out and watch today's episode before jumping to that speculation, fam.

It actually would be quite interesting if Ruby did end up blowing up at Yang since her so-called "leadership" lost them Oscar for the umpteenth time especially after they had just gotten him back earlier the same day in the first episode and Yang had the nerve to call out Ruby for her choices when if she hadn't been the one to make the call to prioritize helping the People of Mantle over restoring Amity Tower then the group wouldn't have been forced to divide and conqueor and at least Oscar would still be safe with them rather than be captured by Salem.

The title of today's new chapter is "Fault". At the moment, both sides of the hero team---JOYR and RWBN_P have sustained casualties. While JOYR may lose Oscar, let's not forget that Nora was also badly injured on Ruby's watch so my concern is that Ren, given his current demeanour, might end up holding Ruby accountable for what happened to Nora last episode.

 Basically both sides have messed up here however at least RWBN_P were more effective to some degree (at least for now until Virus Penny shows up). Then again JOYR did manage to aid the evacuees of Mantle with the Happy Huntresses. It's tricky. Both sides have done well on their respective parts but also suffered losses in the form of injured and missing party members.

That being said, I really want to see Ruby's reaction to learning that Yang lost Oscar ESPECIALLY when she finds out that it was Salem who sent her Hound after Oscar.

The last time Ruby stood before Salem, she ended up suffering a meltdown when Salem mentioned her mother with the implication that she was the one who killed her.

Imagine...how Ruby will feel if she discovered that one of her dear friends was taken away from her by Salem again...just like her mother. It'd actually be really interesting if Ruby has a stronger, more emotional reaction to Oscar's second disappearance and the implication of him becoming Salem's prisoner.

The last time someone Ruby loved got taken away by Salem, they never returned and she never saw them again since they "died".

Oscar is Ozma's current reincarnation. If Salem already knows that detail then Oscar is a deadman walking; no pun intended. 

This isn't just about him just becoming a detainee of the villains to use against the heroes. It's practically a death sentence and from Ruby's perspective, this could spell her never seeing Oscar again. Since Salem would take him away from her again...just like her mother.

To go from saying, “I’m just glad that you’re alright” when she thought the group had simply lost him to Ironwood to…never ever seeing him because of Salem…again, imagining it from Ruby’s point of view, that WILL probably hurt. 

Or at least have some kind of unexpected reaction similar to how Yang told Blake a younger Ruby first responded to Summer’s death back during V2.

Imagine if...Salem even tries to use Oscar as a bargaining chip against the heroes? Surrender the Relic of Creation and the Winter Maiden or Oscar dies. 

Worst yet...if it ends up being a trick where Salem plants a fake Oscar to be traded off. The real one is still her prisoner while his imposter leads an ambush on the heroes.

Not saying this will be the case in the canon but still worth tossing out. I dunno anon-chan, for now this all just me speculating here. I do think the group losing Oscar will cause them to split further apart while at the same time acting as the primary objective that will ultimately force the group to reconcile and unite them.

This is something that Oz told Oscar that the two would have to do, not just for themselves but for the whole team. But as I said, this is mostly speculation and I wanna see how today's episode plays out before going further.

Squiggles Answers:

Gonna answer two questions in one here since my response is more or less the same:

If Jaune has lines with Salem then my assumption is that at some point during V8, Jaune will be present this rounds when the whole group encounter Salem yet again, similar to the moment during V7 when a ghastly apparition of the Wicked Witch made herself known to the group and Ironwood inside his office

I don’t think Jaune will be the one captured by Salem since up until this point in the series, Jaune Arc has neither been on Salem’s radar nor has he been a person of interest to her.

The only villain in Salem’s army to show interest in Jaune is Tyrian Callows and I’m still waiting to see how that will play out in upcoming season. My headcanon is that Jaune will fight Tyrian and may just be the person to defeat him once and for all or at least provide a worthy challenge for the Scorpion Faunus and play a hand in his defeat given Jaune’s semblance. Since Tyrian has the ability to tear through a person’s aura, I have a strong feeling that Jaune will be Tyrian’s best match since fans saw him training to replenish his aura levels at the start of V7CH6. I’m sure that new skill will certainly prove to make Jaune a worthy opponent against Tyrian Callows.

As for Salem herself, no. Salem is not interested in Jaune. She doesn’t even know who he is specifically.

As a matter of fact, the only characters Salem has targeted previously were Professor Ozpin (as an incarnate of Ozma) and Ruby Rose (as the Silver Eyed Warrior whose newly awakened powers damaged her apprentice Cinder Fall hence why Tyrian was sent to abduct her back in V4).

At first I figured Salem would only be interested in Oscar due to his connection to Oz as yet another incarnate of Ozma. However, it seems like Salem would have another reason to hunt down Oscar since he was the last person in possession of the Lamp of Knowledge. As highlighted in RWBY V8 Official Volume Trailer, Salem summoned her Greyhound Grimm to stoke out the person who could help her unlock the powers of the lamp.

And as us fans are aware of, not only was Oscar the last person seen in possession of the lamp prior to it being pilfered by Neopolitan, but he was also the person who first told our heroes---mainly Ruby---how to summon Jinn in the first place back in V6CH2.

Not only is Oscar harbouring the secrets to using the Relic of Knowledge but perhaps the remaining Relics as well considering that he does possess Ozma’s memories. This makes me assume that Salem will probably wish to keep Oscar alive until all the Relics are gathered.

While I understand that Ozpin being reborn was the catalyst that sparked her attack on Atlas Kingdom, I still feel confident that Salem will wish to keep Oscar around as a tool so she might not be quick to kill him off while he could be of use to her; in more ways than one. She might even use Oscar as bait to lure out Ruby. That’s how I see it.

That being said, Jaune won’t be the one captured by Salem since he isn’t her primary target. If Jaune is to be captured then I will only assume it’s a case where he is captured along with other characters---like let’s say Salem captures him together with Ren and Yang. 

Or…perhaps it…a matter in which Salem only takes Jaune to use him as leverage to force Oscar to comply to her demands. 

@miki-13 once told me that in the Wizard of Oz storyline, Dorothy Gale was taken prisoner by the Wicked Witch along with the Cowardly Lion after the Tin Man and Scarecrow were damaged by the Flying Monkeys. 

The Cowardly Lion was caged and starved by the Wicked Witch while poor Dorothy was forced to become the witch’s personal slave while she schemed to steal her silver slippers. 

According to the Wizard of Oz 1939 feature film, Dorothy was taken to the Wicked Witch’s Castle with Toto who was immediately separated from Dorothy and used a leverage by the Witch to force the young girl to be subservient to the Witch, all the while she begged for Toto to be free.

Perhaps…this type of storyline may be mirrored in the canon for V8. Maybe…Jaune will be Oscar’s version of Cowardly Lion or Toto, taken captive along with him to Salem and used as a bargaining chip by Salem to get Oscar to submit to her?

And while Salem keeps poor Jaune caged and starved (probably even made into a play thing by Tyrian Callows to be beaten and abused), Oscar is made into an unwilling slave of Salem, forced to remain complacent for the sake of keeping both himself and Jaune alive. So while Jaune is used to keep Oscar in line, Salem in turn schemes to use Oscar to lure Ruby Rose---the last Silver Eyed Warrior---to her demise.

When I think about it in that regard, this isn’t a bad idea. It actually works perfectly given the Wizard of Oz parallel. I definitely like the angle of Salem taking Jaune as a secondary prisoner; threatening his life should Oscar not provide her the answers she needs. So it’s a case where Jaune’s life is ironically placed in Oscar’s hands so to speak so the poor little prince has no choice but to behave himself and be a good little slave to the Wicked Witch for the sake of his friend and surrogate big brother.

That’s the ONLY way I can see it being plausible for Jaune to be captured by Salem too. Only as a bargaining chip against Oscar. Who knows?

What if…Jaune, Yang and Ren all become Salem’s prisoners to be used against Oscar who is made into Salem’s unwilling slave---thus leading to the rest of their teammates---Ruby, Weiss, Nora and Blake---to come save them all? Weiss saves Jaune, Blake saves Yang, Nora saves Ren and finally, Ruby confronts Salem for Oscar.

YES! That can work :D I like it!

Outside of that, like I said, Jaune isn’t a current main target for Salem is. Oscar is and so is Ruby.

But in the event of this headcanon not coming to fruition and it’s just Oscar who is taken, this squiggle meister is banking on the alternative of Jaune joining Ruby as part of the rescue party to save Oscar; to parallel Dorothy Gale leading a rescue party to save the captured Princess Ozma is the Lost Princess of Oz.

(1)I like how ruby there for penny this season but I just wish someone talk to oscar about his problem to,

(3)I'm confused about something why does oscar act like he'll be gone ,gone when he an oz be come 1,it was show to us that oz can coexist with his life's,like he did with the one life he had were the man made his cane an had a family,so couldn't he do that for oscar ?

(4) it's never been said how long it takes for oz an his host to be come one but at best I think it takes only a year,an it's been at best 7 months maybe sense,oscar left home so what if by volume 9 it seem like it will fully happened but doesn't

Firstly---hey now, we are only on episode two going into episode three, anon-chan. We still have twelve remaining episodes to get through for this season so let’s wait and see how things go moving forward. As a Pinehead, I would very much love to see someone discuss Oz with Oscar as well but at the moment in the story, the character I more expected for Oscar to do this with---meaning Ruby Rose---is off somewhere else. The teams are still divided right now and I have a feeling we may not get that kind of conversation or scene between Oscar and another member of the hero team until possibly later in the story when everyone is back together. So yeah, as I said, let’s wait and see, fam.

Secondly---not quite sure, to be honest with you. As much as I’d love to see Oscar fighting at full magical strength like his predecessor once did, I’m not sure if this will require Oscar to even need to revoke the Maiden magic. As I told another anon-ninja, the show has teased Oscar potentially having his own semblance so currently, I’m waiting to see if Oscar’s own unique power may have an impact on his inherited magic too.

Thirdly--- Why does Oscar keep acting like he’ll “die” with the Merge? Because…PLOT and ANGST anon-chan 8V 

But in all seriousness though, that is the angle the showrunners seem to be going with for Oscar regarding his true feelings about the Merge. Despite Oz mentioning that HE is the one to be changed with the Merge (and NOT Oscar specifically) back in V5CH3 and in spite of Oscar learning the truth about the Wizards and their origins in the Lost Fable and seeing it all with his own eyes, it seems that that still wasn’t enough to quell his fears regarding it. I think bottom-line, Oscar is mostly scared about losing himself to the Merge and ceasing to be who he is as his own identity.

While he may desire to be a part of the final battle against Salem, it is very evident that Oscar doesn’t want to do this at the expense of losing himself in the process. He DOESN’T want to be OZPIN or OZMA or just another life for him to live either. He WANTS to be HIMSELF. He WANTS to be OSCAR PINE. 

And I’d like to believe that part of Oscar’s concerns may even coincide with how the other heroes---his team. His friends. His family in arms who he has all come to care about deeply---will all look at him after the Merge happens.

Yeah sure, the others might like Oscar now and consider him a “part of the team” NOW as he’s still Oscar but…what’s going to happen after the Merge? After he and Oz do fuse and he changes as a result of it? Will the others still trust him then? Will they still like him then? Will he still have a place among them? Will he STILL be OSCAR to THEM or will they only see him as SOMEONE ELSE?

I’d like to believe this is another major cause for frustration for Oscar regarding the Merge. While it hasn’t been said in the show, I do think it’s one of his qualms. But we shall see.

And lastly---You’re correct anon-chan. How long it takes for the Merge to happen hasn’t been confirmed as yet. Personally, I see it as something that has no real set time. Last season, General Ironwood sort of hinted at the nature of the Merge when he told Oscar that he would ultimately “get used to the Merge” to the point where one won’t be able to differentiate the two souls anymore since they would’ve fused together so perfectly that there will no longer be any rea significant difference or question to who was in control.

or me, I’d like to believe the Merge is just something that’ll happen gradually to Oscar and Oz in the background. At first it’s glaringly noticeable when the two souls are still separate but over time, this feat will go away until all you see is one person---one man and one soul--- and how you chose to see and treat them is dependent on the way you’ve always seen them essentially. Like I imagine, all the people who mostly saw Oscar as Oz (like Qrow, Ironwood and the remaining members of the Inner Circle) will continue to treat him as such. 

But for those characters who always saw Oscar as himself and cared about him as Oscar---such as Ruby, Jaune and Nora, for example. That relationship will NOT change and they will all continue to see Oscar as Oscar because that’s the soul they were closest to.

Or at least that’s how this squiggle meister is choosing to interpret it. I’m still looking at the Merge as Oscar being meant to be the dominating personality who moves forward succeeding Oz and NOT the other way around. I’ve always seen Oscar as himself and been a firm advocate for the characters treating him as such within the series regardless of his connection to Oz or Ozma. 

After all, when Ozpin was Ozpin---no one was treating him as Ozma. They treated him as Oz. They gave him that respect. So I only expect the same in return for the little prince.
