If Onyx is the first of the beast transformers, why does Alpha Trion tend to have a leonine alt mode?
Dear Beast Befuddled,
In the cycles before the Great Cataclysm that ended the Age of Evolution, most of Cybertron was inhabited by the ferocious Predacons. Personally, I have never been fond of those primordial predators—I found their manners left much to be desired—but others of my family followed Onyx's example and adopted forms based on Predacon life. As you noted, Alpha Trion was particularly taken by his chimera mode, and still keeps the design schematics encoded in his databanks—though he also has a spaceship mode in backup, for practicality’s sake.
Thoughts on the new characters (revealed and future), subroles, and lore stuff?
okay so i havent answered most of my asks in a hot second because tumblr has been straight bugging but this is being kind to me! thankfully!
TLDR, I am VERY excited for the new season and super interested to see how T4 treats overwatch moving forward, because this is a huge update and I'm very hyped for a lot of it!
Long essay + personal opinions under the cut
In terms of new characters, I am. So pumped. Getting TEN characters this year is super exciting- I'm mostly worried that it'll be hard to keep up with all the changes, especially since five of them are dropping LITERALLY TODAY AS I AM ANSWERING THIS ASK. I keep flip flopping between "OH MY GOD SO MUCH NEW STUFF TO TRY!!!" and "Oh my god. So. So much new stuff to try."
In the context of the game itself, I think it's very interesting and I'm super interested. I am personally a very flexy player- I enjoy all roles, can play about 30% of the heroes well (if I'm being generous) but have fun playing almost everyone in the lobby. I am a chronic mystery heroes player. That being said, I LOVE being able to explore new heroes and gameplay mechanics so for me, this is a dream come true!
I've been playing Anran during her hero trial and she's been very fun (if a little undertuned imo). Her gameplay loop is satisfying and it's very cool that she has two types of ult- I said while watching the spotlight that I'm surprised she's the first character to do so! Her movement is decent, it can be super fun when you get a good play off- right now she just doesn't do enough damage, I feel. Her DPS is very easily outhealed, from the games I've seen.
Obviously I haven't tried the other heroes yet, but from their hero trailers and what we've seen of them in the spotlight event, they seem pretty interesting! Mizuki and Emre aren't really my style of hero but they look compelling... I'm more excited for their lore implications than anything else. Dominia seems fun! I really hope she doesn't unfortunately suffer the fate of being a widely unplayable tank. And, of course, JETPACK CAT. I'm learning this character. My sister is learning this character. We're all learning Jetpack Cat. Oh my god I can't believe she got added I'm actually so happy
I'm also VERY curious about the future characters... I spot at least one Omnic and perhaps? Another Meka fighter? That's the impression I got anyways. If they keep adding to the already existing factions of Overwatch, I'll always be happy to see more characters expanding the lore and fleshing out the world!!
Since you asked, I don't feel that the subroles are SUPER super relevant. They were interesting to me when I saw them, but overall it feels like some of them are far less relevant to others. My Ana maining ass just saw "Tactician support" and kinda forgot everything else- that was the only one that stood out to me. Overall I feel that they're an interesting addition, but that at a casual level it mostly becomes a statistic that many won't care to look at. Otherwise I'll leave the higher level players to speak their piece...
Now. In terms of lore. Oh god have we been getting lore. I have been WOEFULLY behind (the TMNT fixation came to burn itself into my brain with a passion) but I am enjoying the content that we're recieving!! I am 100% behind the decision to do year-long story arcs with the seasons being themed around big events! It's a super cool idea and a very fun way to continue
Regarding what's actually happened? I am. In distress. Slightly. I'm such a big villains fan, Ramattra and Doomfist are two of my favourites and I'm sad to see them removed from the spotlight. HOWEVER. I am ALWAYS ready to give a new story a chance, and I am interested to see what they're doing with Vendetta! I've seen a lot of people point out that right now, she's mostly being a power hungry tyrant, and that it's very likely that it will backfire on her. I agree with this fully
Doomfist was such a compelling leader because his (theoretical) stance being pure anarchy was compelling, and his execution felt slow and carefully controlled. In this sense I fell like their philosophies are sort of equal and opposite. Vendetta craves control over an empire, but her execution is reckless and too fast. On one hand, Doomfist's methods feel more permanent and reliable (enlisting the help of the world's most elite mercenaries, keeping the best hacker alive on his side, embedding Talon into the government and polite society) but is it worth anything if he gets nothing done? Maybe Vendetta is what's necessary to start making real progress on taking out Talons enemies. Or maybe we should be more worried that she's only focused on taking out her own enemies...
Overall. Really hyped about this arc. Super big fan of seeing Talon get active again. I miss my pookie Ramattra (NULL SECTOR WILL RETURN I SWEAR TO EVERYTHING. I BET MY ENTIRE WORTH AS A HUMAN BEING IT'LL COME BACK) but his character arc was butchered with the PvE gamemode, and I've come to accept that. We keep striving forward, and hope for new things!
Oh, and since I didn't mention it, the expansion of the lore with the new heroes is also very fun. I enjoy getting to see more of the Hashimoto. It feels like there's going to be something interesting going on there, since Hanzo, Kiri, and now Mizuki are all centered in that area. My guess is that Vendetta is going to attempt to take control of the area via the Hashimoto-Talon alliance and that we're going to get Hanzo and Kiriko on Overwatch's side because of it. Goodness knows OW need some allies- maybe Yokai can be of assistance to them.
Dominia is interesting. I can't guess how she's going to contribute yet, but I sincerely hope that her being added to the game means we can get more insight into Vishkar's inner workings. I've heard a lot of complaints about a lot of stillness in the Overwatch lore, but a surprising lack of people seem interested in how Vishkar fits into everything. And I think that's a shame! Lucio, Symettra, Lifeweaver and Dominia are all on that side of the plot... I'm really keen to see what ends up happening with them.
If I have to theorise (nobody is forcing me, I'm going to do it anyways) I think Vishkar is going to get exposed, Overwatch style. Surely, eventually people are going to see the kind of corruption on the inside. It's been hinted since OW2 released that Satya is questioning her place there, and if they do end up allying with Talon... I can see a reality where Talon falls apart, their heinous actions and connections exposed to the world, and all allying factions being hit hard. In which case, we may see a lot of switching sides, a lot of chaos as people start rioting and betraying one another, a lot of potential for team ups and character arcs.
I am, so far, slightly behind on lore regarding Freja and Emre. I know there's something going on there with the Conspiracy (cool name, I vibe with this) but I don't know anything about it really. Something to do with a god AI? And also Emre is like, possessed? I don't know. I'll catch up and get back to you on that.
Anyways, there are most of my thoughts! Super hyped to play the new S1, ready to see some shit go down in the lore. OVERWATCH IS SO BACK BABY
I'm in a college band class. I am struggling to find sheet music of rvb songs for a symphonic band (brass, woodwind, percussion, no strings, no piano). If anyone can help, it would be appreciated. Before New Years if possible. Here are the songs I'd like to be able to find: Contact*, Can't Trust Anybody Now, Mental Meta Metal*, Red vs Blue (s8 finale), On Your Knees, Blood Gulch Blues*, Fragments, Soul Clef XI*, Now That We've Come So Far, Warthog Music*. Ones with * are ones that I really want.
i would have absolutely no idea how to find this or make this BUT if any of my followers know!
what is Wildfire's semblance? My only idea is maybe absorbing sources of heat like fire to fuel their own aura as well as the aura of others.
I love that Idea, and a name popped in my head for it immediately;
Cauterize
The other biggest idea I had was;
Stirling
Effectively this is the opposite of Cauterize - Being empowered by Fire and Heat like Nora is - Fire acting as Jaune's Semblance Amping ability.
It's gonna be hard to choose between the two, given the kind of person that Wildfire is.
Other less interesting ideas I had were
Infusing Dust into their aura to it's full potential and efficiency
Thermal Kinesis - being able to manipulate heat around them instead of just producing it, such as drawing the heat out of a fluid and pushing it into an object
Heat Haze - Being able to "teleport" Between large enough sources of Fire
I do really like the Idea of Wildfire sitting by a campfire to heal and recover like in Dark Souls
But I also really like the idea if them injecting themself with Fire Dust to get that last boost they need to win a fight
After all, Wildfire is a Survivalist - being able to Recover is a necessity for survival, but so is being able to push yourself a little too hard to live until tomorrow.
Oscar semblance idea: Aura Linking. Think like this, let's say Ren's aura is 200 HP, Oscar's is 200, Nora's is 300, and Jaune's is 700. When Oscar is near them, we'll say within the same visible area, each of them will have 1400 HP. This would help reinforce the fact that they should be within the same area because this boy needs to stop getting kidnapped or disappearing. Perhaps he could use this to selectively gain a boost from enemy aura, like Cinder has 200 HP so Oscar gets 400 HP. Thoughts?
Hmm, interesting! I do like the extra initiative for the group to stay near to Oscar lmao, but I'd hope caring about him/fear of losing him again would be reason enough to watch his back :P
The two hesitations I have about this are
It's very similar to Jaune's semblance, as both involve buffing others' aura
It introduces a complex specificity to aura that I feel could complicate things unnecessarily. Sometimes magic systems benefit from being a bit more vague and less scientific/mathematical, as getting bogged down in numbers and logistics can be limiting or time-consuming.
Then again, we have seen aura bars on scrolls and scoreboards, and I feel like I remember percentages being brought up during the tournament? So there's definitely a precedent for the possibility of such a semblance... again, I could even see this already being a function of Jaune's semblance we simply don't know about yet.
But the gaining a boost from enemy aura is fascinating... it would tie in with how Oscar treats allies and adversaries alike as individuals capable of change and growth. I'd probably pick a semblance that leans more into defining traits like that, or his resilience, insightfulness, realism, etc, etc
Thanks for sharing the idea!!! I love hearing them :D
So now that the Fire Starter Pokémon Zodiac theory is, unfortunately, breaking thanks to Fuecoco, is there any pattern you thunk could replace it?
It's not the funnest answer, but I think there's probably not an intentional pattern with the starters.
You could try to connect Fuecoco to the Zodiac theory by way of male crocodiles being called bulls, but so are a lot of other animals, so I don't think it's good justification.
I don't personally have a different pattern theory for them, but I think the pattern theories are fun, and if anyone has another pattern for the Fire Starters, please share!
Thoughts on the (so far) 4 new species from HTTYD Journey? The Phoenix one should be Stoker not Strike, I like the butterfly and mushroom ones, and the blue one is okay
Haven't had time to look yet - and I'll give folks the warning, I probably won't be able to look for a while. WILD next couple of months for me -- sorrrryyy!
Just wanted to let you know rather than sit in radio silence, like I have the bad tendency to!
Is Trypticon connected to Onyx Prime? Onyx has the Tryptich Mask, and Trypticon's name comes from Tryptich, he's also one of the more animalian Titans, and the Tripredacus Council from Beast Wars are also known as the Trypticon Council!
Dear Titanically Twisted,
You know your mythology better than some of my own kind, it seems! When the Constructicons secretly rebuilt one of your Earth cities into the fearsome Decepticon, so far as they were concerned, he was named “Trypticon” for his three modes: city, mobile battle station, and dinosaur. But this name was written into legend; indexed deep within their memory banks, to be proffered through subconscious recall. It’s perhaps best to think of Trypticon as a reincarnation—not unlike the Constructicons themselves.
There are conflicting accounts of that primeval era—and I was there for most of them, naturally. It was believed that the beast was older even than my brethren, closer to the Trans-Organics than the Transformers; it was indeed Onyx who succeeded in taming him, and gave him his name. The old stories speak of a fearsome warrior amongst Onyx’s pack, a three-headed dragon, whose valor was the measure of mechs thrice his size.
In those myths that describe Trypticon’s creation at my brothers’ hands, it was Mortilus, not Onyx, who sired the living crypt. But Mortilus did not have a possessive temperament; he gladly shared Trypticon with Onyx, the Void Scepter with our fallen brother, and Death with all the universe.
