Hilarious to me actually how much I'm Not That Girl sticks out in the movie. I never noticed it when watching the stage version but maybe because the movie slows down the first half a little and gives us flashbacks and "omg they were roommates" content, but it makes that song such a weird moment?
It's supposed to be this, "oh no there are Feelings happening but he will never love me, he loves someone else" thing. (Which, sidenote, boring. Unless you give me pining gay idiots? Boring.)
But watching it is like, Elphie. Babe. He literally just ran off with you. You had this Moment in the Woods(tm) and it's clearly mutual and the only reason you aren't making out right now is because he left to rescue the baby kitten. And maybe presumably because of Gaylinda because she is there trying to not be gay and in love with her roommate.
But also! Then Elphaba is waxing poetic about beautiful perfect Glinda and who wouldn't love her and "he loves her so!" And I'm just going... he's known her for two minutes. WHO loves her so? WHO is out here being wistful and romantic about her gold hair and lithe limbs and winsomeness???
Also. Honey. THEY BOTH RAN OFF INTO THE WOODS AND OUT OF THE OZDUST WITH YOU. The only reason they're dating each other is because it's Socially Acceptable, they recognized peak perfect queer fabulosity in each other, and neither of them realize they can have youuuuuu. THEY'RE BOTH IN LOVE WITH YOU.
Anyway. Very amused. That is all.
