The Last Morrell delivers a sarcastic, thought-provoking look at male identity in follow up single ‘Another Boy’.
Following on from his debut single ‘Fine Now’, (featured as Record of the Week on BBC Introducing) the fast emerging artist is already no stranger to taking risks with releases. ‘Fine Now’ is an emotional rollercoaster in the form of a ballad with a Pink Floyd-esque climax, and now with ‘Another Boy’, The Last Morrell offers up a more upbeat introspective look at identity and particularly how men are struggling to come to terms with it.
The song’s harmony plants its roots in classic r’n’b with its feel but quickly reveals a more contemporary message and the emotional connectivity that people will quickly come to associate with The Last Morrell alongside his powerful vocal range. “I guess I reached an age where I realised that despite all of our modern-day efforts to individualise ourselves on social media or through fashion or whatever, we are all essentially the same as everyone else. Our identities and behaviours are all taught to us and we can quickly unravel them and strip them away. Men are having a hard time with this particularly as masculinity as we once knew it seems a bit redundant, we’re all thinking about what being a man is all about in 2019. This song is a tongue-in-cheek look at my own anxieties about my identity and growing up.” says The Last Morrell. Raised in a small Yorkshire town, he grew up being comforted by the sounds of Seattle’s grunge and alternative rock scene. The lyrics painted feelings of being trapped, bored and angry, which connected him to an American sound that has permeated through his first songs written as a teenager, to present day. Inspired by artists such as Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and Jeff Buckley as well as contemporary artists such as Father John Misty, Jordan Rakai, PJ Morton and Emily King. Artists such as Led Zeppelin and Supertramp showed The Last Morrell the potential strength that can be found in being an outsider. The fledgling artist has already performed alongside BRIT Award-winning singer-songwriter Tom Odell and exciting jazz four-piece Ezra Collective, with his stock continuing to rise. He also performs as a session musician, hiding at the back of the stage playing keys and guitar for ‘alternative soul’ artist VC Pines and prodigal talent Caitlyn Scarlett. Meanwhile his monthly Sofar Sounds shows have seen him rub shoulders with a slew of fellow up-and-coming artists. The Last Morrell’s first headline show at The Servant Jazz Quarters in London on October 17th is expected to sell out. https://open.spotify.com/track/5IkJChjYL0w0emhjQqIZBv?si=k90rAJ9oTS2SCWn9isOPNA Read the full article

Pro-woman. Pro-child. Pro-life. Repost from @abriandk. ・・・ I'm thankful for my two boys and my wife and their grateful stand for life (even though for one of them that means scribbling on signs and playing with rocks behind the protest, and for the other it just means continuing to breathe). Also thankful for the #CMP videos and how they remind of what's at stake. #anotherboy #protestPP
What a brave mom. We're so thankful for all the parents who are standing up and showing the world what babies in the womb actually look like. We're so sorry for your and your family's loss, Naomi. <3

“I've gone back and forth for the past week or so about whether I wanted to post this. The courage I've seen in my friends to share difficult stories and to open themselves up to the fury of Facebook friends and strangers alike has been emboldening. In light (or in the shadow) of the most recently released PP video and corresponding hashtag, I think it's time. This is a picture of my #AnotherBoy . 20 weeks old - though the chromosomal abnormality that took his life also prevented him from growing larger than a 15 week old baby. For the past two months, I've felt the pain - emotional and physical - of having lost him. When I went to the hospital to deliver him, I was assigned two nurses whose only job that evening was to care for me: the one single grieving mother in Labor & Delivery. I was put at the end of the hall so my heart wouldn't be burdened by the cries of the other loudly living babies. When it was time for him to be born, the doctor didn't dare pull him out as she normally might have. She held out her hands to catch him gently. The nurses carried him gently; washed him gently; wrapped him gently; were careful not to tear his fragile skin or bend his tiny fingers - not because they were handling a viable commodity, but because they were preparing a small Anselmo for burial, and not a fingernail was to be disturbed. He had died days earlier, and yet everyone knew: this little person deserves honor, even though he is past the point of feeling or being aware of his own treatment. To such as this stunted little covenant child who most likely had mental retardation - to such as him belongs the kingdom of heaven. His value didn't come from the fact that he was wanted, or that he would have been brought home to a warm home, loving family, full fridge, and given a rich education and adequate medical care. His value came from the image he bore: of the God who took time out of His busy schedule of whisking up typhoons and composing "Indian Bullfrog Symphony no. 7,954,638,067 in G Major" to say "hang on, I've just gotta make another one. This one will be short, yet beautiful: I think I'll leave off a chromosome this time."
