I don't know how many freelancers are here but (if you don't mind) I mourn.
I'll miss Anthem so much.
The game wasn't brilliant but it had the potential to grow and evolve. It had an amazing flying system, it was beautiful and had its lore. Certainly felt like the last "the actual bioware" game (don't know what's going to be with me5, maybe I'm wrong. I would be happy if so). You see, the world and the main plot itself and the characters and even the humour - that was bioware styled. No agenda, no dull characters, no bad writing.
The friend who betrayed you most unpleasant way isn't an "evil guy". He had a motive, he had his own reasons to do so and you understand why he did it because it wasn't sudden.
The man who gives you contracts isn't just a "tough merc". He's asking what would you do if you knocked down a smuggler. Would you let him go or kill an unarmed guy? He let one go once. It cost this man's friend a life because the smuggler wanted revenge. Letting enemies go isn't a "good guy choice", it's a way to make you feel noble hero, to tease the ego. And lancer can't risk the lives of people they're defending just to play a noble hero.
The woman who lost her son long ago. He's dead alright. He's not coming back. But she doesn't want to remember it, her mind is broke. You started with a conversation, you wanted to lighten a burden, it just a chat. Then you suddenly start pretending to be her son. Isn't it a good deed? She got some kind of joy in her life and it isn't so hard for you. Then she remember you're not her son and calls you a liar. Because you hide the truth to make you feel better, it wasn't for her sake - for yours.
A scientist who accidentally multiplied himself and is forced to live and work with two other self, constantly arguing even if these three are actually the one person. A rich man who keeps bringing flowers to sentinel because she's third in line for a throne but changing his mind like lightning once he finds out she's twelve in line now - and starting to bring flowers to sentinel's aunt, because she happened to be fifth in line. A radio show everyone around discussing, arguing and some are writing fanfiction so you feel like "well now I must know what it's all about".
*deep sigh*
I will miss main characters: Owen, Haluk and Faye. Felt like real family. Problematic and dysfunctional though.
I will also miss all the freelancers I played with from time to time. Anthem community was brilliant bunch of nice people. People who was always ready to fly to you and aim help, no fighting for the resources, no rivalries or messing someone's mission just for fun. Wonderful community based on Anthem motto "strong alone, stronger together" (long before arc raiders "don't shoot" came up).
I will miss flying. Great gaming mechanic, done so damn well so you can feel the air resistance or the weight of your javelin.
I will miss the Anthem so bad.
In another world it might've follow the No Man's Sky steps or became a single action rpg. In this world it just a glympse, one of many games that was claimed a failure. Not for me. I remember the great time I spent in Anthem, it will always be my guilty pleasure (no matter how many people are eager to explain just how bad anthem was).
(Don't get me wrong tho. Game had its problems, a lot of it. Hard to say if Anthem 2.0 could've make it better or not. Maybe it was destined to fail from the beginning, but as a single it might've been a fantastic adventure).
