DATV appreciation post
Emmrich' story is one of brilliant sparkles datv has.
A child horrified by death and raised among necromancers and walking dead. A boy captured by terror of thinking about inevitability of dying and forced to live with those thoughts daily facing the very same death in all its aspects constantly untill he decides to find a a better way for himself.
Emmrich tries to concure death by mastering it, by making a deal so he can live (un-live?) forever.
And all that lifetime work and research, his dream goal, leading him to an immortal entity that doesn't want a "hollow forever" but wants to live. Eagerness to live imprisoned in a dead body.. it may seems like a reflection of Emmrich' story but it's not. Manfred is full of life (ironically), captivated by wonders the world has to offer, meanwhile lichdom will never suggest any of that because immortality isn't an eternal life - it's an eternal existing.
It's fascinating to see how Emmrich bonding with Manfred and starting to realize there's something more valuable than a word "forever".
I do like a subtle poetry of a simple thought: death doesn't supposed to be an end because it may be a new beginning. What Emmrich did for Manfred, how he teaches him, helping, discovering a world to him - it's the way to live even after dying because he won't be forgotten. All that he's done won't be in vain. There's something of a daily routine beauty about their story.
I do appreciate small beautiful things datv has to offer despite anything.

dragon age series might be dead (thanks ea you fuckers) but hyperfixations lives forever

he's kinda dorky baby rn and doesn't like to sit still so it's the only decent photo
okay.
The more I think about Davrin the more I think he's the best datv companion.
(no, im not going to sell you "anyone who don't like Davrin is a racist" point of view. and not going to talk about bioware's weird marketing because it's shitty and always has been)
You can often see people blame the writer because Davrin was bound to Assan. Cute lil mascot, which is usually a classic disney move to push souvenirs sales. But it's nothing alike really.
Emmrich has a skeleton companion, and Davrin has a griffon. That's all. If you take Assan out of Davrin's story (just keeping the whole Gloom Howler questline, no personal attachment to the character) Davrin would be interesting whatsoever.
A dalish who used to have a soft gentle side when he was young (caring about hallas, humming to them) but once he grown up he decided to walk his path. Became a hunter, then - a monster hunter. Spent his life trying to prove his clan and himself he's worthy. He can be defender, he can be a shield protecting others from darkness. It became the main goal. Trying to reach it he's chasing deathly creatures, death itself. Forgetting how to live.
Every single day is a battle, or a training, or chasing the quarry. Preparation and waiting. He transformed himself into the actual weapon, a deathly tool with a simple goal.
After the Weisshaupt he faces reality. He did a long journey and it has to be the end.. but it isn't. And now he suddenly realized he has to learn how to live. Just live.
Assan is a good bonus because through their relationship with Davrin you can see how these two are alike. Griffons always have been warriors, it's what they do - fighting darkspawn and the Blights. But what if they can change its life? What if they don't need to be just warriors anymore? Through their relationship you can see how Davrin re-living his own story. "Assan is stubborn", "He has to be prepared for battles or he dies", "He has to listen", "He is meant to be a warrior". But what if he doesn't need to be? What if he can do both, to defend and live its own life?
Assan is an emotional support griffon for Davrin and a good way to show players Davrin's story and highlight the character's personal conflict.
It would be harder without Assan, but not impossible. Davrin is still the same. He starts questioning his life after the Weisshaupt, and not because he has a griffon but because he got a second chance to live.
Considering the amount of teammates and time spared per character, it's a solid work. Delicate yet strongly persuasive. Just as it should be.
(especially because Davrin is a new character and was never presented before like Neve, Lucanis, Harding or Emmrich).
it's been a while tbh and it's because I took a puppy and it consumed my life, time, energy and willing to live. hard times with the baby. it's german shepherd and his name is Garrus.
because there's no shepherd without Vakarian (◉‿◉)

anyways.
I'm still going to finish my drama series posts about datv "Dreadwolf's son" au.
just a thought but hear me out.
Peter Pettigrew willingly gave his hand to a bald mage -> bald mage restored his powers -> world is in danger
Inquisitor willingly gave their hand to a bald mage -> bald mage restored his powers -> world is in danger
dark solavellan aesthetic right here alright
that a nighttime shitpost I regret nothing
[Let there be no shelter from the dead]
he's such a gem 🖤
I love the Veilguard. I really do. But I wish it was less afraid to offend people.
Both Neve and Lucanis should have 0 trust in each other after the dragons and both should have romance with Rook blocked if rook picks the other city. And no they shouldn’t end up together!
Also rook should be able to argue WHY they chose each city, with some factions having specific dialogue for it. (Warden argue why they chose Treviso bc too many helpless against blight)
Crows were done SO dirty. Sure you could argue that not every house does what Arainai did +20 years ago, but why doesnt everyone but Illario feel too kind and loving?
The companions should have more opinions on each other. The situations should be hard to navigate, not “hey you should listen each other”.
Rook should be able to tell Solas loving Lavellan that she’s stupid for thinking that he can be saved.
Dorian should tell Rook that Inquisitor can’t help if inky is with Dorian.
Also!!! WHY IS NEITHER OF THE 5TH BLIGHT WARDENS HELPING INKY?!? It wasn’t just HoF and Alistair either. Warden-commander recruited quite a few new wardens in Awakening. Also Weisshaupt wardens should be self righteous bricks. Borderline similar situation than what Crows have in Antiva that they’re the ones who truly rule the country.
Pretty sure there’s more i could think of that feels like “we cant be too offensive”.
I love datv don't get me wrong but sometimes I prefer to think it was a fever dream while I'm still running in circle tower being tortured by demon
Meeting in Minrathous
("Dreadwolf's son" playthrough: 1 part, 2 part, 3 part, 4 part)
Okay, I'm back with the drama series.
Fenlath is back too, because he successfully escaped the Prison of Regrets. If he had more time to think, he would've process the whole thing and develop the thought it wasn't Varric who helped him escape (not really, just a memory of some sort). But he hadn't enough time and the wound is still fresh.
Elgar'nan is still alive, world is in danger, the work has to be done, so poor boy has to continue. He went to Minrathous and meet Dreadwolf.
He's focusing on the goal but mentally he's a mess. And meeting Solas triggered him a bit.
It's the wrong time and place to reveal the truth and, tbh, he has no guts to do it right now. But the sorrow and hurt just sink through. Fenlath wants to say something, anything, to Dreadwolf. Something bitter, to make him regret.
Did it help? No, it didn't.
Fenlath thinks, "maybe it's the right moment to finally let go". It won't help. Nothing will help actually. He never had a father before, and he never will. Dreadwolf will never understand how it feels to be a broken little mortal, he will never changes, he will never match the image Fenlath created in his mind. So what's the point? F♡ck it. F♡ck the feelings, and hurt, and sadness, all of it. They must defeat Elgar'nan. Even if it means to work together. So.. F♡CK IT ALL.
I always have a great time watching the whole Solas x Blackwall drama in dai.
A normal person would've understood that people are different, they all have different interests, beliefs, and morals. But Solas isn't normal; at the beginning he doesn't really care about "people being people", they all just poor tranquil beings who doesn't even understand they're tranquil. That's his prime pride era that lasted about a year (once he woke up and killed elven "i eat bark for fun" king).
Since he joined the Inquisition he was surrounded by people he can't associate himself with. Because of course he's looking for someone who has to be his pale reflection (pride era alright).
Cassandra is faithful and honorable but he isn't led by faith. It's a no. Varric is a fascinating weird fellow with storytelling fixation. It's a no. Vivienne? Elitist mage who're interested in small political intrigues within closed orlesian society full of other elitists. It's a no. Sera.. NO. Iron Bull, a qunari spy approving the Qun that demands full submission and restricts free will. It's a big no. Herald of Andraste? Collateral damage, no.
And there's this Blackwall guy. Grim tired man, exhausted of living in a world full of injustice. He's a good man, he's trying to help and protect, he has morals. Such a great guy. Totally the one Solas can understand because they're so alike.
He clung to that likeness, invested so much into it.. and then the stupid truth popped up.
Blackwall is still a good man, he is still trying to help. And he is a liar. A traitor. He let down people who trusted him. He drowned in that guilt that follows him still so he can't move on.
And that discovery must have been hard to face.
However it isn't the funniest part.
We have never seen the moment when Dread Wolf actually developed the thought because apparently he didn't. Understandably, because he is the Pride and it's not a pleasant thought to elaborate on. But every single person (inner circle) can be his reflection. All those mortals are just parts - an echoes - of his long story representing different character traits and.. does it sound prideful? Because it obviously has to be.
Look. Cassandra - faith in Mythal and loyalty to People; Vivienne - game to outsmart the powerful opponents; Varric - a need to share wisdom through sharing stories; Dorian - an urge to do right, to prove he's not like them; Iron Bull - balancing between two opposite sides (Qun/"madness" for qunari, spirit/demon for the ancient ones); Sera - tricks and throwing dust in eyes to hide an insightful nature; Cole - compassion (expectedly).
So, yes, Blackwall is a critical hit to his ego.. but all of them? No chance he'd survived that dreadful revelation. Good for him to not think hard enough.
Dragon Age companion sorter
(in case you want them listed like spotify top50)
Can't say I'm shocked though (and I'd switch 4 and 5)
But the last question was rough buddy. No hate intended but I sincerely can't like these two

Checking what spells Solas casts as a companion. Some names are familiar from the game, but these deal more damage and mostly have unique animations. Except for the heal and teleport. Fun fact: Anaris, Hezenkoss, some revenants, and venatori magisters use the same teleport. Target direction and damage aren't shown because they need to be triggered separately, which is beyond my skill level at the moment.
i was sad and weak and knew only one way to fix it
