Unfortunately, no. I did a surface dive of the Legacies fandom and found that the fandom is quite dull and seems to favor Josie and Hope over Lizzie. Yup, Hope the self-entitled, self-insert. And Josie, the selfless self-insert. Far be it from me to criticize what people like and what people don’t like, but if you ask me, they’re missing out on how interesting of a character Lizzie actually is. I also feel like the treatment of Lizzie from the other characters is laced with absolute misogyny. Lizzie is basically being shamed for daring to be feminine and reveling in her femininity by the other characters. Not to mention according to her psych file, it’s been disclosed that she suffers with bi-polar disorder. Never mind the fact that if Lizzie was some sort of edgy, goth character instead suffering from bi-polar disorder, she would be celebrated. And I certainly don’t excuse the things Lizzie does because of her disorder. But I find it interesting that despite there being a psych file that details Lizzie’s disorder, she’s not really receiving any help for it, other than Alaric telling her to meditate (and what 16-year-old enjoys that?). But anyways, that’s not the interesting part, that’s JP being a bad writer, nothing new there. What I find interesting about Lizzie is that she’sreceiving very little help with this disorder but is also dealing with it on her own. Does she always deal with it the right way? No, not all the time. She relies on her sister quite a bit for it but I can also understand that. Her entire life, her twin sister has always been there, being that rock to keep her centered. But she’s also very much aware that she has a problem and when she reaches her lows, she recognizes the danger she can pose to others so she never indulges in her anger until there’s no one around that can be harmed by it. This disorder is something that she’s very much aware of, is even ashamed of (and she shouldn’t be, by the way), but also she’s trying to cope with it in her own ways. She’s a little self-centered, yes but that’s what I like about her, just how real of a character she feels like. I much prefer her over Josie who’s only personality trait is being selfless and definitely over Hope’s self-entitlement (which is also her only personality trait it seems).
