Republicans, Candidates, The 700 Club, Oh My.
Warning, the following rant is a rant of anger; if you do not wish to be angered, I would suggest skimming or skipping. Unlike some, I actually understand that it is not my right to demand others to forcibily conform to my opinions.
I think we can all agree that with everything going on, with terrorists, racism and the world just spiraling more and more out of control every day, hatred and bias is the last thing we need. With the recent attacks in Paris, Lebanon, Nigeria and now Mali, there is a plethora of issues going on, and there are millions of Syrian refugees desperately trying to flee a war-zone where the very terrorists we all fear are killing without mercy and without a care. You would think that all of the world, regardless of religion, would have the mercy to feel pain for all the victims and the families involved in the bombings, as well as mercy towards those escaping a life filled with the very monsters who caused such sorrow.
So why the fuck is the only thing supposed Christians in power doing is spewing more hatred?
Let me explain. 30 governors have shut off their states to Syrian refugees, claiming that they don’t want to help any Muslims and that the only people who should be let in are those who pass a Christianity test. Candidates for Presidency are agreeing with this idea for a Christianity test and claiming for all these refugees to be nothing more than terrorists. And to top things off, News Channels are yet again going for the wow factor and showing completely bias news based on Christianity.
Enter The 700 Club. For those blessed not to know this channel, imagine the typical supposed Christian who belittles others for not believing in God or Christ, or maybe imagine a television preacher pretending to be an unbiased news anchor, and you get the basic idea of what this news channel consists of.
With the recent attack of Mali, barely a week since the Paris attack, you would think that a Christian news channel would be focusing on the victims, wanting to be good Samaritans and help those in need, like how the BIBLE SAYS WE’RE SUPPOSED TO DO. You would think that they would be sending a prayer or something to those families of the affected. You would think that they would focus on getting all the facts accurately to ensure that people who watched their channel would be able to understand and comprehend just what the situation consists of and why its so horrid.
So what’s their first line?
“Another Muslim led attack in Mali kill several Christians-”
........Where do I even begin?
First off, REALLY?! We have Muslim people sending their condolences and receiving unending hatred for crimes commited by the Daesh (real name of ISIS) and not by actual Muslims. Do we really need to be sending more hatred in the direction of a people, the vast majority of which have done NOTHING and had NOTHING to do with the attacks? The Daesh aren’t even Muslim; the vast majority of things they do go directly against the Koran! They’re the Islamic equivalent of the Westboro Baptist Church; they’re a minority who does not speak for the entirety of the religion, and to associate the entire religion with them is like associating the entire history of Christianity to the KKK, with the only difference being the fact that one is considered a terrorist organization full of monsters, and the other gets to go free and continue its racist practices in a supposedly unbiased country.
Second of all.. How dare you. How dare you use the death of these people to further your own religious bias? These people are dead. Their families are in mourning and in fear. And instead of showing the respect they deserve, you dare lump them all under a label that suits your argument without even bothering to check if its true? 98% of Mali is MUSLIM, 98 FUCKING %. The victims were most likely Muslims who disagreed with the principles of Daesh, like the vast majority of Muslims do!
It saddens me to think that a Channel supposedly dedicated to Christ, who firmly believed in forgiveness and love, would so venomously skew the facts in order to produce nothing short of ignorance and anger. What’s worse is that people will believe that, and instead of honoring those lost in the attacks will instead turn their anger against those who had nothing to do with them and cause them pain.
Syrian refugees have to go through a 2 year intensive screening program before being officially let into the United States. They have had to see horrors of war; family members dying, their lives being destroyed, torture, the list goes on. They are helpless and vulnerable in a world that to them must seem terrifying.
How can those in power claim to be Christian, yet fail the most basic principle of it so thoroughly? I understand that they are wary of these refugees, that’s why there is a 2-year screening process to ensure they aren’t. But to fully outright believe that all of them are to be condemned, that those who do not agree with the principles of Christianity are to be considered inferior, is to go against everything Christ ever taught.
I want to believe that the world is a good place; the fact that places like Germany and Denmark are so willing to help and love those who seek help gives me hope and faith. But when I see those who call themselves followers of Christ, believers in forgiveness and kindess strike out against those who aren’t, it makes me sick. And the fact that by the time someone finishes reading this that there will be people who don’t find this repulsive scares me.
Worst part is, most of those people that scare me are the ones in power.
