"JaYvIk sHipPers aRe tOxiC" - don't make me laugh. Reed (Ekko's VA) tweeted "canon" about jayvik and the members of the "totally not problematic, totally not toxic" (extremely toxic) meljay fandom started calling him slurs as well as calling him a "coon" and "corny attention whore". All these over liking not their ship. I bet if it was their ship instead they would love it. It shouldn't have surprised me, considering Toks (Mel's VA) was also insulted numerous times for liking the ship, and real people have been harassed by them for pointing out parallels between Mel and Viktor that btw were later reblogged and confirmed by an official lol account or for hoping there will be some jayce and viktor (not even jayvik :p) content in the future series. Apparently pointing out obvious parallels is hate and racism but insulting and harassing a POC for liking a ship is not.

Anyway below are some examples. Unfortunately, there are way more on the Internet 😞 I must say I especially "loved" that one person "reminding people to be respectful" while calling Reed a weak, embarrassing disappointment for liking a ship...

It’s been almost a year since Arcane has ended and I’m STILL seeing the anti-MelJay posts…like Aren’t tall tired???

And it’s crazy the double standards these ppl have for MelJay and idek if they realize how hypocrical they sound.

Caitvi doesn’t need to publicaly declare they’re in love. They don’t need to say « I love you ». Same with Timebomb and same with JayVik. But Mel and Jayce can comfort each other, support each other, sleep with each other, defend each other, and it’s apparently not enough to be considered a romantic relationship.

Cait can physically assault vi. She can come to Vi ONLY for information on Silco and a guide through the lanes but then develop feelings for her later on.

Jinx can kill Ekko’s friends and work for the man that makes the enforcers hunt the firelights.

Viktor can choke Jayce until his passes for rejecting to join him, he can destroy the world and leave it up to Jayce to fix it, and can watch as he is suffering and tormented in the AU…

…but Mel using Jayce for political purposes at first suddenly means their entire relationship is built on lies and can never be romantic.

Like do y’all hear yourselves??? Am I missing something?? Like what???

TO BE CLEAR: This isn’t an anti-CaitVi, anti-Timebomb or anti JayVik post. It’s just weird to me that all these couples can be complex and nuanced yet still be understood to be romantic and loving. But MelJay can’t have the same grace. It’s a hook-up at best and nothing more for these ppl.

But seeing MelJay as anything other than a hook-up, one-night stand, manipulation, seduction, etc. and thinking they genuinely loved each other simply means you lack media literacy.

Like please help, am I missing something??

Jayce & Mel have barely any one-on-one scenes that don't ultimately connect back to Viktor either textually or meta-textually. I'm being serious. Their sex scene is infamously interspersed with shots of Viktor passing out. Their very first scene together post-sex is almost entirely about Viktor's illness & how Jayce feels about it. Mel visits Jayce in the forge, & their conversation turns toward Viktor's whereabouts. Jayce's relief at Mel surviving the bombing is quickly undercut & superceded by his horror at Viktor's death. The conversation they have in the lab post-bombing is, again, entirely about Viktor's state, punctuated by Viktor's suspended, comatose body being in the room with them. Then, after having been separated for most of season two, Mel & Jayce finally reunite...only for Jayce to start an argument over Mel not saving Viktor. And then they proceed to be interrupted by Viktor himself. lol

At the end of the day, I think they have, what, maybe four one-on-one scenes that aren't really about Viktor? One when Mel is attempting to talk Jayce into announcing their new Hextech products without Heimerdinger's approval, another when she's coaching him in politics at the opera house, a third when Mel is woken up by the city alarm (can this one even be considered a scene together? It's about two seconds long & Jayce isn't even awake), & the last immediately after their fight with Viktor, when Jayce apologizes & reassures Mel that she has control over her own life.

So if you've ever questioned why exactly shippers tend to make Jayce's relationship with Mel about Viktor...maybe it's because the show does exactly that too?
