OUaT...REALLY?!?
I need to rant...or is this venting?
OUaT has me so frustrated this season! I feel like pulling my hair out and bleaching away certain scenes from my brain, but at the same time I love the Swan Queen episodes and then you can't go wrong with Lana all over the place. Yeah, I’m sure A&E knew we’d keep watching for her if nothing else. But from previews and some spoilers season 6B is sounding like a damn dumb headache! If I'm getting this correct, in the very first episode Emma & Regina get back to Storybrooke, (1) Emma's showdown with Gideon, (2) they've take Robin with them, and (3) Hook’s proposal.
1) Emma seems to stay alive so what’s happening with Gideon? Does he get away, is he gonna be out and about in Storybrooke plotting? So all this mystery about him was nothing but show and it looks like he’s just going to be one of those ‘Wow’ but then tossed away characters, but at least he brings the Black Fairy into the story. He’ll still be in episodes but will it be present time or flashbacks of him with the Black Fairy?
2) Then, cuz she still thinks Robin is Regina’s happy ending, Emma is all for Wish Robin going back to Storybrooke with them. Is Wish Robin anything close to the original Robin? How alike or different are they? Could this change fates, disrupt stories and lives? What is Robin’s fucking purpose? Can we please stay with “dead is dead” and stop resurrecting these damn beards?!
3) Emma meets a worthless Hook (which we all know he is regardless of looks) in the Wish realm. Will she feel guilty for not being able to save him from his vengeful misery? Will she want to go back to Storybrooke so she can keep being what he needs to be good? Is she going to be what he wants/needs? OMG! All I hear is focused on Hook, Hook, Hook! What a coincidence that she’ll suddenly not feel bad for not loving him enough. Yup, we know she was unsure about her and Hook, she told Archie straight up. So again, this feels like a guilty acceptance to a sudden proposal…
A proposal? REALLY?!? He's gonna ask for permission? REALLY?!?
David being ok with it…? How do we go from David’s upset-ish/worried breakfast scene earlier in the season:
Emma: This is about Hook
David: No
Snow: David
David: Fine. It’s about Hook. With him moving in, things are gonna be different. We’re not gonna see you as much.
(Could not seeing her as much be referring to the real and strong Emma versus the weak shell of Emma that is trying to be what Hook wants)
To David being onboard of Hook proposing to Emma!
I know that all logic, continuity, and storylines are thrown out the window when it comes to Once, but really The Fuck?!? Why have we never been given indication that Hooks has wanted to marry Emma? He pushed himself into her life until she accepted it. This is stalker's happy ending. Beyond this, we've seen different Love scenarios have been thrown around but that’s different than actually being married. The only “Love” couples (that I can think of, please correct me if I’m wrong) have Gold and Belle, and Robin and the real Marian.
Speaking of which, if I can stomach all the Hook bullshit Robin needs to be gone! He has never made Regina his first choice! Like Emma, how can such a strong woman become a weak shell of her former self? I know the OQ fans have big hopes for “Page 23” but I’m hoping that this will be the beginning of Regina returning to her strong self. Regina needs to see that Fate isn’t as solid or set in stone. She needs to see that she has the power to choose and make her own story the way she wants. Will she see the darkness in Wish Robin? Tink told her that she ruined both their happy endings by not going to him when she was younger...but had they met before wouldn’t that take have taken Robin away from his True Love, Marian? From Roland? Will this wish become a painful nightmare? Remember back during the Queens of Darkness storylines when Regina has the dream of Robin coming back to her and the Evil Queen telling her to get away from him? I've mentioned in other posts that what I saw in this scene was the Queen protecting Regina. Foreshadowing perhaps? Cuz now we have Robin coming back, Regina isn't caring how only that he is, and we have the Evil Queen waiting back in Storybrooke (we know she's not gonna be a snake that long …I wonder what this could all mean? What’s gonna happen?
So yeah, I’m pissed about all this ‘ring’ crap but I still feel that everything is being pushed at us so fast and yet early enough in this half of the season, that the show would still have a chance to redeem itself in the last episodes of the season.
And don't get me wrong Swan Queen would be ideal (I won’t give up on it until the final credits roll) but if the end is Emma and Regina fighting the Fate of their titles and making their own freely chosen stories, WITHOUT THE BEARDS, I can accept that as well. I hold onto hope of strong women stories for a few reasons. Remember, a strong Emma has said that you choose who you are, Regina has said her happiness doesn’t revolve around a man, even Zelena made those comments to Regina about women not needing to focus happiness on men (something like that), and finally Snow’s words when it’s all going to hell, “Happy ending aren’t always what we think they will be.” Think about it, we have been programed since we were young to expect Fairytale endings of the true love couple living happily ever after...a weak princess with a strong prince to save her. By Snow’s words wouldn’t the unexpected fairytale ending be strong independent women finding and living a happy ever after without a man needing to save them or give them purpose? Yay for the strong women of Once (I know they’re still in there under all the soap opera storyline crap). Still, SWAN QUEEN needs to be ENDGAME!!!
Finally, a quick change of subject before I sign off. I’ve started reading about the musical episode. I’ve seen a lot of comments of it not being worth the hype, it’s a waste, it doesn’t fit in, blah, blah, blah, but I hope it can bring some good lies and truths to the surface. I’m not going to hold my breath over the finished result, but it could still twist and turn and dramatically changes messed up storylines for the better. In my optimistic mind I’m thinking back to the “Buffy” musical and could see the show at least using it as a rough outline.
It would be so wonderful if Emma’s solo was about her not feeling right and being herself; she’s not all good or all evil, how can she find and accept the balance of her whole self. She should sing about still feeling like an orphan, about not belonging, about not being the woman Hook wants, and about what she would give to get Regina her happiness. The others could sing about dark moments/feelings that still hide in the deepest corners of their minds, hearts, and souls. Can they forgive each other? Can they forgive themselves? To every Light there is Darkness. The Royal Family (David counts by marriage) could really heal and, as Snow said, they can be “The family we were always meant to be.”
Then in my rainbow colored imagination this would all lead us to Swan Queen completing the Swan-Mills family True Love triangle. This would be like the best fairytale Happy Ending (Beginning) ever! The show would breaking classic fairytale rules by creating/allowing the new modern fairytale ending. We’d get back to the real heart of the show, no more soap opera stories, interest would be sparked again, and the show would get renewed.
Yeah, so this concludes my rant of show frustrations, and a bit of optimism for the musical episode. Now to wait the last 7 days for the show’s return...
Why are all those anons going after ikky? If y'all are going to be rude at least stop hiding behind anon, it's just cowardly (anti-robin)
They CLAIM they don’t even have a tumblr and this is the only way they can contact me. 😒 It’s pretty stupid and cowardly.
I’d like to propose a limit of two white straight men per TV show (not restricted to the regulars. If you have two white straight men as regulars, no guest can ever be a white straight man).
Choose wisely.
(1)Hello love :) Yeah I guess we can forget classic rock songs for the musical ep :( Oh god I have a feeling it’s going to be SO cheesy haha. But I’m so excited to hear Colin and Jen sing - and Josh too. As for the book, yeah Hook’s character is definitely not being made fun of! He’s got a redemption arc, a rich backstory and a love interest, while Pan is the actual villain of the story. But despite the similarities, he’s not Killian – I’m not always a fan of his behavior toward women.
(2)And it’s definitely a book written for adults, the author’s got a beautiful style but it can be a challenge to read for a non-native English speaker (such as me :p). For Robin, I believe that the original plan was for him to be in one episode in S2, and then they decided to give Regina a love interest so they brought him back (also I hate that he’s played by two different actors) but they were never invested in his character. What a shame.
(3) Damn, what would I have given for WV Killian to be the one to help Emma get home. He could have been older and miserable without being turned into a crazy guy who’s only a nuisance and a comic relief, without his alcohol problem being mocked. Sometimes I feel like they’re trying too hard with the “comic relief” thing... Like, in 6x06 with the Wookie prisoner gag, Killian KNOWS what that is, he mentioned it in 5x01. Also I read your meta on Killian (hehe boy’s definitly a chaotic)
(4/4)and I wondered where Emma would fit. What’s interesting is that she’s the sheriff, used to be a bailsbond person, now she’s the savior, what she does is catch the bad guys and she instinctively helps others. However she won’t hesitate to break the law in pursuit of good but also for herself. Ehh, there’s only one week left till Valentine’s Day! I’m starting to work on your gift... If you think about other specific things you’d like just let me know! –your CSSV ♡
Hi there Valentine!
I’m trying to build up my expectations to laugh at the cheesiness because honestly I don’t think I’ll be excited for anything else about it until I watch it :D that’s why I’m gonna drink, so that I can laugh way more than I would’ve normally. :P
Your review is reeling me in reading the book, lol. I would really like to see more of Pan as a villain. Funny enough, books that gave me a hard time reading them were the His Dark Materials trilogy - I read all books by using a dictionary about once per three pages, I always had words I didn’t know, and I did it back then when Google Translate wasn’t that much available - so I practically carried a small dictionary along with the books :D But yeah, my sister once told me that reading original Shakespeare is very hard, and I was like, how hard can it be? And she showed me the beginning of Othello or Hamlet, I think, and I couldn’t understand a thing. I was looking at the verses with my eyes wide open and saying, “Is that English?”. I‘ve even found some fanfics from native English speakers that are written in such a complex way that sometimes I can’t understand what they’re talking about :P The woes of learning another language.
I remember a post back far in the beginning of season 4 that showed Robin saying “I was a different man back then” and then had a shot of Tom Ellis as RH which said “You don’t say” XD and it was weird, because, you know, I don’t think many people minded that the actor changed - these things happen in TV shows. The fact that they tried to cover it up looked poor to me, why even do that? And yeah, the waste of his character kinda makes me sad too. OUAT started as a show that created so complex characters that you could love or love to hate, even ones with very little screentime, and then there’s Robin... the only reason I was sad over his death was because I felt bad for his fans... but this new version of Robin, what is he even going to be like? Oof.
About WV Killian, look, I think that he could have turned into comic relief without having his alcohol problem ridiculed. I wouldn’t have liked that either - one of the reasons I was drawn to OUAT Hook was because he was no comic relief, in contrast to what Disney did to him - but at least it would have been sort of decent. It makes me sad because they showed that they never actually plan on dwelling on his real issues, that to them they are only things to mock him about :( and yes, the technology thing was funny before, now Killian has been living with them for enough time to stop looking like an outsider, and besides, isn’t that the point in his story? To stop looking like that and adapt and be a part of them? They can still show how he’s from another realm without making him look ridiculous... and we are here hoping for some decent representation but noooo... I guess we’ll stick to the fics :)
And thanks for reading the meta! I’m actually pretty proud of it! I think that Emma is very Neutral with Chaotic inclinations. She likes to take matter into her own hands, but she still respects the law, unless it goes directly against what she thinks is the best for everyone. She turned a little more Chaotic as a Dark One, but aside from that, she’s way closer to the middle, especially in contrast to Killian’s almost fully Chaotic nature.
Oh yes, the time is slowly coming, and I can’t wait to find out who you are! :D (I also have to work on my own gift lol) I’m sending all my love to you and your cat!
ONCE UPON A TIME FANS/HATERS! I've put it in a list, why I have given up on the show and am moving on with my broken little heart. Comment, share! Let me know how you feel about it!! Thanks, guys!
When you dream about being Lily Sparks then get a chance to be like her.
Sneak Peek 1, OUAT Negativity
under the cut
Look, I know that Zelena has done some horrible things in her life. But I truly feel that she’s taking a turn now. When she gave up her child - that was out of pure, innocent, motherly love. I don’t think a scene from OUAT has ever made me cry that much. I know a lot of people hate her for the horrible things she’s done in her past - and I do agree that some things there cannot be forgiven. But I feel like Zelena was taking somewhat of a turn this episode, finally to the good side. When she pointed out to Robin that he was prioritizing someone else over protecting his newborn child, she did have a point despite Robin’s excuse of “setting an example of heroism” But isn’t keeping your child safe heroic as well? Anyway, my overall point is that Zelena’s #1 priority right now is her daughter and no one else, and I really respect that certain aspect of her.
