The Crown and the Flame REBIRTH?
Oh, so Choice is like dying dying. Got it.
CHOICES: Introducing our newest book. Totally not generic high fantasy adventure story. Fall in love with only 3 a wide selection of new and unique characters never before seen in the Choices Library. Your brilliant, but demanding captain of the guard. He's twice your age. Grow closer every chapter. Please ignore that he looks like Ethan Ramsey. A mysterious, brooding rogue who'll complicate the feelings you canonically have for your captain. Please ignore that he looks like Chris Powell. And....your best friend who has an eye for fashion. Introduced halfway through the book. Providing you with a closet full of beautiful outfits for you to buy regardless of in-universe explanation. Please ignore that she looks Hana Lee.
Imagine saying your player base is abusing the reward system when said company reuses character assets consistently and when they DO make new characters and environment assets, they're probably using AI art. Cheap ass clown behavior.
I cannot believe this is the same company, more or less, that made HSS and HWU.
It's been forever since I've complained about choices but... Nia's shadow form has a DC 25 check? For a character with an 11 Con? Unless she gets a nat20, she aint getting that check so why bother having it? Also, what's the drawback? Never played the book, but I'm assuming the gist is this is her corrupted evil whatever shadow form? So you'd think some highlights would include being forced to attack players or falling under the DM's control. Something negative, right? Otherwise there aren't any drawbacks besides keeping track of two different sets of spell.
Also, Imtura's rage gives her advantage on strength checks or saving throws, but Captain's Duty also gives her that. You can't stack advantages, so like?????? pick your flavor of advantage I guess???? Why would a barbarian not rage in combat if they have it? I mean the only positive is that Captain's Duty wouldn't be effected by needing a long rest so. It's essentially a back up rage ability under certain conditions.
Me @ RoE in 2021:
Queen B is so lazy when it comes to characters that aren’t the main crew like... oh there’s Nathan and Beau from The Junior, the main antagonists of the story. Carter from RoE, one of party!twin’s LI. Addison SInclair from HWU. Payton from HSS. And i think I remember there was even a diamond scene to impress some alumni who was just Zeke from AME. Zeph from the elementalist and your sister from sunkissed. they even reused the same model for veronica’s mom manager and that acrtress in the same chapter.
Either this guy had to watch PB completely gut his idea or his pitch was like...
“Okay, what if we produced a medical drama book, but instead of the medical aspect, the focus is solely on Doctor Thomas Hunt. He’ll insult the player. That’s what people find most attractive about these guys, right? He can call the player stupid or something. Other love interests? Oh, um, the friends group. Yeah, we’ll do what we should’ve done in Lovehacks except they’ll only show up every other chapter. And the player can join an elite diagnostic team, but they’ll have to baby Doctor Thomas Hunt in the second book and in the third his ex girlfriend and his rival that he hates join the team and that’ll take as much focus as solving cases. Like the psychic who can smell things about people because he was bit by a tick. It’ll be fun.”
