Police have told a French teenager to go into hiding after she received death threats for insulting Islam.

The 16-year-old has been advised to stay away from her lycée (sixth-form college) in southeast France after calls on the internet for her to be killed, raped or attacked.

The girl, named only as Mila, is understood to have been told by officials that she should avoid being seen in public until the controversy fades. She is being given psychological support by the local prosecutor’s office.

Prosecutors said two separate criminal inquiries were under way, the first to track the authors of threats to kill and rape the teenager, the second to determine whether her comments amounted to the offence of hate speech.

They have since dropped the hate speech case as Mila was expressing a personal opinion on religion and not targeting individuals.

The head of the French Council of the Muslim Faith, Mohammed Moussaoui, said nothing justified death threats no matter how serious her remarks.

You are, of course, going to get certain types of Muslims vehemently threatening anyone who declines to regard it as a “religion of peace,” but the outrage is at least partly being fuelled by the usual Western apologists - the ones who bleat that “hijab is empowering,” march about “gays for Islam” and cancel anyone or anything guilty of wrongthink. And then in the next breath unironically launch a tirade against Xtianity and all its many ills.

Either all ideas are open to criticism and even ridicule, or none are. And I don’t accept the notion that none are. Meanwhile “offence” is irrelevant to whether a point is valid. It’s just an easy, lazy smokescreen employed to deflect.

Which religious debate subject (taking in ALL the types,) do you feel brings out the most angry and dogmatic responses? I've found that many U.S. people *defend* Muslim religion above all others.

Of recognized religions, Islam, without a doubt. You’re flooded with whataboutism, accusations of racism (which is itself racist), and simply repeating the brand slogan, as if fluffy words, shouted angrily, replace actions.

As with Xtianity, you’ll also get “it’s a metaphor!1!!” and “out of context!!one!” regarding its scripture. You will, however, get more flat declaration on its absolute perfection (”there are no scientific/historical inaccuracy in quran!1!”), mostly defended by insisting it has to be read in Arabic - thereby conceding it’s worthless to the rest of the world. Which is why i generally stick with the absurd and gross interpretations coming from Islamic leaders and ex-Muslims; both will tell you unapologetically.

But this doesn’t come solely from followers, not by a long shot. There’s plenty of non-Muslims who will angrily accuse you of the nonsensical “Islamophobia” (you can’t be bigoted against an idea) for daring to point out how gross or absurd the doctrine is, while insisting that “hijab is empowering” or “Allah loves gays” from the keyboard of their MacBook while sipping their latte from the comfort of a country which doesn’t enforce Sharia, in order to increase their woke-points. (Basically, since fundamentalist and evangelical Xtians don’t like Islam, in order to oppose that, you need to love Islam. But it’s possible for two things to be incorrect.)

The hypocrisy here is that criticising an idea does not advocate or endorse harm against people. But refusing to criticise an idea when it’s deserved or warranted ignores and condones harm against people that is already being perpetrated. The “anti-Muslim” people are the ones who throw other human people under the bus to excuse subjugation and barbarism.

By the way, you’ll get just as dogmatic responses from any other faith-based belief, such as anti-vaxxers, anti-sciencers, applied post-modernism domains, conspiracy theorists, and Flat Earthers. Some of them angrier than others, but certainly dogmatic.
