People of Kommagini, let the glory of Antiochos, the noble king, be celebrated as it deserves. He was a provident ruler of the country. He was just, wise, courageous. In addition he was that superlative thing--Hellenic-- mankind has no finer quality: everything beyond that belongs to the gods.
C.P. Cavafy, “Epitaph of Antiochos, King of Kommagini,” from Selected Poems (translated by Edmund Keeley and Philip Sherrard)
Antiochos Herkül ile tokalaşıyor Nemrut dağı. Adıyaman. I. #Antiochos Kral Mithradates’in oğlu olan I. Antiochos, Kommagene Krallığı’nın en tanınmış kralıdır. Antiochos and #Hercules I. Antiochos Antiochus I, the son of King Mithradates, is the best known king of the Kingdom of Commagene. Antiochus, who reigned between 70 BC and 38 BC, built a temple on Mount Nemrut as the center of the contract with his gods, Mithradates. The reason why he chose the tops of the mountain as a temple place was that he was a dominant figure in the whole country. He designed the temple together with his father Mithradates. He wanted the temple to be so glorious that the importance of the contract with the gods would be well understood by the Commagene people. He believed that their contract would be a new religion and that this religion would spread from the Nemrut and spread all over the world. With this conviction, he became a e Theos ve, the tarih god tarih and became history as Antiochos I Theos. #Gapturu #antikgezi #kültürgezileri #tarih #arkeoloji https://www.instagram.com/p/B7AzubclUqO/?igshid=vyweykff9chy
