Protocatechuic acid, a naturally occurring phenolic compound found in a variety of fruits, vegetables, and medicinal plants, has garnered attention for its potential therapeutic properties, particularly in the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases. This study aimed to evaluate the pharmacokinetic, toxicological, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties of protocatechuic acid. In silico tools, including SwissADME and STopTox, were used to assess the compound’s ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion) and toxicity profiles. Experimental assays were conducted to measure protocatechuic acid’s antioxidant activity, including ferric reducing power, hydrogen peroxide scavenging, metal chelation, and free radical scavenging. Additionally, its anti-inflammatory potential was assessed using a protein denaturation assay. The results revealed that Protocatechuic acid exhibited favourable ADME properties, moderate toxicity, and significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, with IC₅₀ values comparable to standard compounds such as ascorbic acid and aspirin. These findings suggest that protocatechuic acid holds promise as a natural agent for mitigating oxidative stress and inflammation in cardiovascular disorders, with potential for oral therapeutic applications.

A primary contributor to obesity is the increase in unhealthy eating habits. Ready to eat Protein bar is made to combat unhealthiest junk food. Nutritional composition of protein enriched cereal bar is pronounced to be a good source of protein and minerals. A protein enriched composite cereal bar composed in combination of healthful ingredients, all these ingredients are readily available and affordable. The storage stability of protein enriched composite cereal bar will include complete proximate analysis (crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat, ash content) and their antioxidant capacity (Vitamin C, total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, radical scavenger activity, DPPH) due to their bioactive compounds.
The main objective of this study is to investigate the chemical composition, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of the essential oil of Artemisia herba-alba Asso. of southern Algeria. Essential oil of Artemisia herba-alba Asso was extracted by hydrodistillation, and their chemical composition was identified by GC/MS Antioxidant activity of essential oil, has been done by using DPPH assay. The antimicrobial activity of essential oil was realised by the agar disc diffusion method. The essential oil extracted from the aerial parts by hydrodistillation was analysed by GC/MS. 39 constituents, representing 99.3% of the oil, were identified, of which the major ones, Thujone (12,759 %), Camphor (7,751%), Eacalyptol (4,525%), Isoborneol (1,119%). IC50 values observed for DPPH essay were 20,27 ±0,767 mg/ml. On the other hand, this oil was found effective against all tested strains; this activity ranged from 15.67±1.53 mm with Listeria innocua CIP 74915. These results provided evidence that the studied plant might indeed be a potential source of natural antioxidant and antimicrobial agents.
This study was aimed at evaluating the phytochemical components, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of leaves, twigs and stem barks of Acacia etbaica (Vachellia etbaica). Results should that the highest yields were obtained from the chloroform extract (23.5%) followed by methanol (20%), petroleum ether (2.25%), and ethyl acetate extract (1.7%) with most of them being sticky in texture. Leaves had a high amount of polyphenols (140.33mg GAE/L), tannin (8.13mg TAE/L), flavonoids (0.51%), and alkaloids (0.11%) as compared with the other parts of the plant. leaves had a high amount of saponins (0.74%). Stembark and leaf extracts showed high antioxidant activities compared with vitamin C. Chloroform and methanol extracts of all plant parts had potent antibacterial and antifungal activities when compared with extract of petroleum ether and ethyl acetate extracts. Petroleum ether extract of all parts strongly inhibited the growth of B. subtilis with an inhibition zone ranging from 23.3-26.2mm.

Kamettia caryophyllata (Roxb.) Nicolson & Suresh, an endemic climber, has been traditionally used in various medicinal preparations, yet its phytochemical and pharmacological properties remain insufficiently explored. The present study aimed to investigate the phytochemical composition and biological activities of the methanolic fruit extract of K. caryophyllata. Preliminary phytochemical screening was carried out to identify major secondary metabolites. Quantitative estimation of phenolics and flavonoids was performed using standard spectrophotometric methods. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH radical-scavenging and phosphomolybdenum assays, and anti-inflammatory activity was assessed using nitric oxide scavenging and trypsin inhibition assays. GC–MS analysis was performed to identify specific bioactive compounds. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, phenolics, flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, and carbohydrates. Quantitative analysis showed high phenolic (169.69 mg GAE/g extract) and flavonoid (78.62 mg QE/g extract) contents. The extract showed strong antioxidant activity, with EC₅₀ values of 5.20 µg/ml (DPPH) and 7.80 µg/ml (phosphomolybdenum), comparable to those of the standard ascorbic acid. Moderate anti-inflammatory activity was observed with an IC₅₀ value of 170.01 µg/ml in the nitric oxide scavenging assay and 65.75% inhibition in the trypsin inhibition assay. GC–MS analysis identified several bioactive compounds, including trans phytol, methyl palmitate, methyl linoleate, oleic acid, clionasterol, lupenone, and betulol. The results suggest that K. caryophyllata fruits are rich in bioactive phytochemicals and possess significant antioxidant and moderate anti-inflammatory activities, indicating their potential as a natural source of therapeutic agents.
