i’m afraid to post anything too in-depth about my interests because what if i get a piece of information wrong everyone points and laughs and goes “this guy doesn’t know anything!!!!” and then they shoot me
One thing that pisses me off about looking for help with an anxiety disorder is how the language revolves around you "letting yourself be controlled" by your anxiety. Or how you have to "choose" to not be anxious. as if we're not trying everyday to find healthy and effective ways to handle our own brains. They always frame it as something you're consciously letting happen happen and that it's something you can control. That you're doing it on purpose. Like thanks now I know you will never believe that I'm trying as hard as I can.
It's like saying to a man who's drowning in the ocean that he's letting his fear of water control him and he's not trying hard enough to not breathe in seawater. Instead of throwing you a life preserver they're criticizing you for not being able to swim and how if you choose to be happy about drowning in the ocean and try harder to swim you'll feel much better like the rest of us. Just don't think about drowning. You're letting the ocean control you.
oh my god I’m being chased by a bear (I’m eating cereal)
so many people say they're supportive of autistic people and then get real mean the moment someone displays genuine literal thinking.
it will literally never be obvious to everyone that you do not mean what your words are saying. we have spent a long time learning to understand and recognize why people do this and it STILL gets us into trouble bc people assume not intuitively knowing what they actually mean is the same thing as a bad faith reading.
you don't have to completely overhaul the way you speak for people with different communication styles but you should seriously learn to not be mean when people have trouble reading between the lines. for autism or any reason actually.
I HAAAAAATE RSD I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Be afraid of everything. Especially social interaction
Liking things is so embarrassing. Someone will say "you watched the same movie again?" and I want to die
