Blasting across the desert at high speeds is one thing the KTM 1290 Super Adventure R does well. But it’s also a great cruiser when you want to slow down to check out the scenery. During a recent trip out to the Anza Borrego Desert for the Adventure Rally & Camp, a must-stop destination in the area was Salvation Mountain and Slab City. Weird desert art doesn't get much weirder than this. Salvation Mountain was the brainchild of the late Leonard Knight, a self-proclaimed sinner who wanted to spread the word of God through a colorful paper mache mountain he created. Next door, Slab City is an unincorporated, off-the-grid community of squatters living together in harmony. Ready to check out of your daily grind? This is where you go. And don't forget to stop at East Jesus for some additional entertaining weirdness. It rivals Salvation Mountain for intrigue and you can spend several hours walking around soaking in all the different art displays. If your travels take you anywhere near the South Eastern part of the state, it's definitely worth a detour! Join me for an epic overland adventure to Coyote Creek in the Anza Borrego Desert State Park, in eastern San Diego county, Southern California.  This is one of the most pristine and beautiful desert wilderness areas I have ever seen, and is only accessible beyond the first few miles by high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicles.  The northernmost area of Borrego Springs is the entry point to Coyote Canyon for vehicle traffic, and the winter wildflowers are starting to bloom over the open fields.
