KPOP COVER FESTIVAL IN GANGWON
In 2011, I went to Korea for the first time as a participant in a Cover Dance Festival hosted by Visit Korea Year. This year, the Visit Korea Committee hosted another festival and thanks to Sang Ah unnie who was a staff of the festival in 2011, I was able to participate in this years festival as a Volunteer.
Although my Korean still isn’t the best I was able to help chaperon team USA! And I was also reunited with Vince who participated back in 2011!!

There were participants from even more foreign countries like Australia, Indonesia, and even India!! It was truly a global event.
Because of school I missed day 1, but in the days that followed we toured Pyeongchang Winter Olympics Grounds and even got to see a Korean temple in the mountains before the competition in Gangwon.
It was definitely awkward getting to know everyone at first but by the end of the experience we were all great friends. Shout out to my homies from Team Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Turkey, and Aussieland :DDD

On one night we stayed up eating pizza, playing games, and being over all ratchet until the wee hours of the night. Yes I know, I’m the most responsible chaperon ever..hurhurhur
The actual festival was full of stunning performance from the international participants and Kpop stars (I saw two U-KISS members backstage…so handsummm).
Team USA won 2nd place!! I was so proud of Heather and Vince for perfecting their troublemaker performance in only 3 days. It was a sexy set with a twist ;)

The next day after a nice Korean lunch and a pit stop at Lotte Department Store (New York Cronuts FTW) we got to see SBS Inkigayo rehearsal!! KARA, Ladies Code, and even WASSUP are super cool artists up close. NU’EST and BTOB were also a lot more charismatic than I imagined haha.
We ended Sunday night with a sad but bright farewell party. All of us ate till the point of explosion and danced the night away to kpop hits. Indonesia and Japan can get it, that is all hahahaha.
Vince, Heather, A.O. Crew, and every member in all of the dance teams were quirky, kind, and also very talented. It was a pleasure meeting and touring Korea with you <3
And I am especially thankful to Sang Ah and the VKC Managers, and Translator staffs who made this volunteering experience possible.
