Aline Rocha is an amazing, 30 year old, Paralympic Athlete from the Brazilian town of Pinhão.
In 2006, when she was 15 years old, Aline was involved in a car accident which fractured her back and damaged the third lumbar vertebrae of her spine. This caused complete paraplegia from her waist down and left her without any feeling in her lower limbs.
In 2010, four years after her accident, Aline visited an open door day at the Joaçaba Sports Association. Here she met trainer and physical education teacher Fernando Orso, who encouraged her to try out para-athletics. At the first event Aline competed in, she already won three bronze medals!
After winning numerous medals and trophies at national events, Aline was selected to represent her country in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Still in the same year, she got to know the sport of cross-country skiing, which really appealed to her. She decided to challenge herself and soon went to locations in Europe and North America to train for competitions in the snow. After investing lots of time and energy, Aline reached the necessary ranking points to qualify for the 2018 Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Thus becoming the first Brazilian to ever compete in the winter edition of the Paralympic Games.
Aline now qualified for the upcoming Paralympic Games in Tokyo. She recently took part in a two week training camp in Utah and is working hard towards some great results!
Aline is happily married with the man who introduced her to the world of para-athletics, Fernando Orso.
