If there’s one feature I wish ao3 had, it wouldn’t be a curated feed, it would be some sort of marker that told me where I left off in a fic.

More specifically, when I subscribe to a fic and I forget about my subscriptions for a solid 3 months, and I come back to a fic that’s updated but I have no idea where I left off, I just want like a way to tell what chapter I last read.

And I’ve thought about how you can see how many times you’ve visited a fic in your history, but that doesn’t help much when you “visit” a fic, but it’s just a page refresh. So it’ll be like “visited 27 times” but it’s a 17 chapter fic 😐

My current “fix” is to comment on latest chapters and then when they update I can just see what chapter I commented on

Oh that's a good one.

Being able to subscribe to an author's new works only. (Aka only get a notification whenever the author uploads a new work, not add a new chapter to an existing work.)

Being able to subscribe to only a portion of author writing, limited by fandom, tag, etc. (Ex: being able to subscribe to anything Fox23 posts in the BNHA fandom, both new works and new updates, but none of her Solo Leveling works.)

Better statistics tracking page for authors.

Being able to block certain users from not just commenting but also reading your work.

Maybe some sort of point system / gamification set up to encourage readers to comment more. (Ex: for every comment a reader posts, they gain 10 points; an author earns 20 points for every new chapter they post. Then there's a monthly leaderboard showing which users have earned the most points.)

TIL "Fannish Next of Kin" is a thing! Defined as "someone to manage your fannish works if you die or are permanently incapacitated," its rather like your next of kin irl. I'm sure we've all thought of it...what would happen to our wips and works if we were suddenly just gone. But, much like rl end-of-life-planning, I haven't done bunk to actually make a plan. Maybe this is the time to get it done!

So, how do you do it? There's no form or check box or any easily-accessed documentation on the Archive that would give you a clue this is a thing that exists, unfortunately. The way to get it done is to email Archive Support and make the request. 🤦‍♀️

Specifically, "Both you and your fannish next-of-kin need to send a message to our Support team, which handles next of kin requests, indicating that you want to have them as your fannish next-of-kin and that they agree. You need to provide your Archive usernames for our records. When we receive matching requests, we will confirm that a fannish next-of-kin arrangement is in place." not only do I wish I could leave multiple kudos on the fics I love, I also wish I could like other people's comments... that would be a cool feature coz sometimes I see a comment and I'm like yes!! yes exact that!! all of it!! and I want the commentor to know someone else agrees with them.
