aooh has gone so far beyond a novella. i do not write, i have not even tried to write it in a year. i sit and i plan out every single aspect of the universe it's set in 1009 times, me and my friend would call during exams and spend 7 hours on call, half studying, mostly curating the cahlish language from scratch, im still making the language. languages are hard. anyway. cahan is pretty well developed but i keep thinking of more things i can add detail to. like i can create loads of individual towns and name them and give them subcultures and language quirks and accents and i can over develop the religion to the point of creating my own star constellations and the COURT i haven't even started developing the court and there is always more there is everything ever and i get to make it. explodes. don't even get me started on rothnia. wanna make them folklore and swamp creatures and i wanna draw a hyper detailed map of olinn *oh my god i can draw maps* ???? i can draw cahlish clothes.. and houses... i can learn to use blender.. i can keep adding characters and characters until i have filled the entire map and everyone can live their own stories and everything can overlap and i can create so so many pinterest boards. i cannot however write the book

worldbuilding question <3
follow-up on the "how do they flaunt their wealth" question
you said "the super rich tended to favour larger body types and curves/ show off their wealth through diet and being able to afford it", so lots of money = lots of food = fatter people (which probably = more fabric for garments, which circles back to lots of money)
and then you said "whereas the unfathomably rich would circle back around to more typical modern beauty standards and skinnier body types because they can afford like the best dieticians and most elaborate diets possible to make their health and appearance "perfect" in that way"
i'm wondering where the "skinnier body is perfect" claim comes from societally? if money = food = fat, why does looking skinnier (and thus more like the lower class i assume?) ends up desirable?
i think the idea came from the fact that they would be so rich, so well known, so significant that they don't need to show off in that way anymore, they see it as more childish in a way, also there's that whole issue in our society currently where designer brands (forgotten which one specifically) are pretty much mocking the poor/homeless with manufactured ripped up and dirty clothes made to seem like a new fashion statement, so i think the fact that it's desirable is entirely plausible, also perhaps worded badly but not specifically that skinny is perfect, but that they can mould and manufacture every part of themselves to be the picture of health, the picture of wealth, they can be so certain in this identity as well that they don't need to perform for it
worldbuilding question <3
how do the rich flaunt their wealth?
an easy one for cahan... class wise there's kind of the dirt poor, super rich, and the unfathomably rich, something me and sasha (world building friend) thought of ages ago was basically that the super rich tended to favour larger body types and curves because theyd show off their wealth through diet and being able to afford it, like in some olden day cultures, whereas the unfathomably rich would circle back around to more typical modern beauty standards and skinnier body types because they can afford like the best dieticians and most elaborate diets possible to make their health and appearance "perfect" in that way lmao , also show off a lot through fashion, using more rare and expensive fabrics, more patterns and bright colours in their dying processes, fancy architecture, the rich are expected to host events, balls, put on a show of what they have
rothnia doesn't really have many rich people to flaunt their wealth in general, it's probably mainly seen through land distribution and societal power/influence
how does gender work in your worldbuildt cultures? and linked to that, how then do gender roles, sexualities, and trans identities work?
This one is cool, Cahlish is a non-gendered language, and they don't really have any gender/sex bias or sexism within their society, especially in fashion and work life there are quite equal in that way. I'd say because of this they're pretty accepting of any genders and sexualities in Cahan !!
Rothnia on the other hand im not sure, i haven't thought about them as much so this is just be brainstorming, apologies for rambling haha
In general they are a lot more prude and strict as a society than Cahan and I feel like that would play into it, it would be frowned upon perhaps but not outlawed etc, it would not be a priority of theirs to care about? that or they would resemble a more typical modern western society like we currently have where its seen as very unnatural and frowned upon, but to me that opinion is rooted in religious corruption etc that they wouldn't really have... sexism and gender roles i have no idea, they definitely have some kind of imbalance, whether that's classic misogyny or would say perhaps even flipped, where women would be held in a higher regard to men, tying back into their older religion as women are seen as bringers of life, more strongly connected to nature, etc, and that would be quite engrained into their society even if the religion itself is mostly dead?
(I will post separately about sex and religion because there are other asks I spy that link in ✨)
worldbuilding question <3
what are the political systems like? who's in charge, why, how did they get there?
Hello hi, I'm gonna try and structure my answers to these but I'll probably fail lol
Rothnia: A military run country/stratocracy, there is no other form of government, the military took over power long ago in the country's development as the civilian government was corrupted, they needed to ensure tighter boarder control and control over citizens, and were already accumulating a lot of wealth and power.
Cahan: Run by an oligarchy who are known as the Court, they are a group of wealthy elites/nobles with complete control over the country. I haven't properly developed them as individuals yet but there are about 5 members, and they function kind of like a monarchy in the way that their children/heirs inherit their positions. They are seen as almost god-like figures by some of their citizens, as they each represent by a specific star constellation and deity within the Cahlish religion and draw on this for control and status
