The Apache Trout can be found in Arizona in cool Streams. This kind of fish has been endangered for many decades with efforts of keeping the species since the fourties. Highest threats to this kind are currently the hybridization with the rainbow trout as well as forest fires.

When the hike in pays off. Apache trout are one of the most rare sub species of trout in the world. I feel pretty darn lucky that some great people put in a lot of hard work so I could see this fish in person. I have been flipping though a lot of trout books lately reading about fish I cant wait to meet in real life and a few sub species no longer around that I wish I could. Thank you to @azgfd @westernnativetrout @troutunlimited and anyone else that has had a part in the preservation of the Arizona native trout. #apachetrout (at Arizona)

Some Arizona mountain gold. It’s awesome to see this rare native trout person and to witness first hand evidence that they are thriving. I hope through conservation efforts my children’s children will still be able to hike into the mountains and hold one of their own. #apachetrout
