kinda sucks how “you have the right to refuse treatment” is a radical statement
exactly. that’s complicated by the fact that for a lot of us we don’t have the right to refuse treatment if a medical professional decides so, too. but even if you’re not typically at risk of coercive treatment, there’s this prevailing attitude that you Must Always be striving towards actively making therapeutic progress, and if you’re not then it’s a personal failure
not only is that objectively wrong—because there are a lot of reasons why someone might not be able to access, equipped for, or wanting to enter treatment—but it also perpetuates this idea that if you’re neurodivergent you don’t get to decide. that’s not only shitty, it’s actively dangerous

the way i see it, though, is that regardless of who is doing it, the behavior "crytyping" describes is connected to disability. so even if someone is using it in an ableist way, mocking that mocks disability.
Yeah, that’s why I was saying that mocking poor typing itself (like mocking triggers themselves) is bad as it leads to people just straight up using it as an excuse for being ableist.

ok i wasnt gonna say anything, but honestly, i think that having representation of neurotypical nonbinary people is less important than just having general diversity in the neurotypes of nonbinary people represented. naturally that will come with some neurotypical nonbinary people, yes. but also nonbinary people with neurotypes beyond “autistic” and “neurotypical”. allistics with personality disorders. schizophrenic people. people with eating disorders. we need autistic people represented, and as we expand the borders of nonbinary representation there will be more representation of neurotypicals. but other neurotypes are important too.
Yeah, this is a fair point - I’ve kind of split the world into autistic people and neurotypical people and ignored everyone else! I used neurotypical as a shorthand for “not autistic”. I’ll see if I can edit my post to include more people.
aphobehaterofficial replied to your post “Okay so I’ve been reading into the situation a bit and I am 100%...”
i think that the problem is that the people who use crytyping on purpose are attempting to emulate disabled people, which is why the two things cant really said to be disconnected from each other.
Yeah, I can see that. But like, people who crytype on purpose? They’re literally being ableist themselves, pretending to be disabled to ditch responsibility. I think if we had more words to describe our experiences as disabled people, we could call out malingerers and abusers like that more easily.
hey, another essential oil question. havent been able to find anything that answers this. every time i do research on how to care for piercings, whats most often recommended is to clean new piercings with saline, and often its suggested that you add tea tree oil. so i know oils dont dissolve in water and undiluted essential oil is bad-does saline work differently than just water? is the oil being referred to here not essential oil? or are all the people making care guides wildly misinformed?
The saline does nothing to effect the oil.
So a thing most people don’t know, is that a lot of tea tree oils you can pick up in the pharmacy? is actually pre-diluted for body use. Usually with something like jojoba oil or some variation of vitamin E oil.
It will usually say it in small letters somewhere on the bottle. If it doesn’t say it, it should tell you somewhere on the bottle that it needs to be diluted before use, though not all do.
You can also buy is straight up (which I do), and some people will argue it’s safe to use neat on the skin, but I personally dilute it with an oil like coconut or olive oil before I use it to spot treat sores or areas like a new piercing. Hope that helps!
