“Once I found the strength to be myself, I had no need to act myself”
When I first saw this quote, I thought about my mask post a few weeks back, and how sometimes we have to act like we have our shit together until we get our shit together.
Honestly, I didn’t find the strength to be myself until last summer. I was really good at imitating other people, I was really really good at acting like I was someone else, but I didn’t feel like myself until I realized that playing small isn’t going to change anything. Nobody was benefiting by me being anyone besides myself. Being yourself and acting like yourself are two completely different things. It’s evident in the commercial about the guy who needs a snickers bar because he isn’t being himself. It’s very evident when my boss forgets to drink a cup of coffee in the morning.
Once we start being, we can finally stop acting.
