JOHN SILVER for the character meme

First impression: I’m actually one of the rare few who liked him from the start. He was conniving and self-serving, I always describe him as slippery because there was a certain fluidity and untrustworthy-ness about him. I adored that, especially because I knew vaguely that he’d eventually become the Long John Silver of canon.

Impression now: I adore him. I think he’s one of the most complex and tragic characters in any show I’ve ever seen. When I think about his ending in the show, my heart aches. He’s so injured and traumatized, he lashes out and makes tremendous mistakes and he’s so damned by his own hand. I’ll fight anyone who dogs on me for loving him.

Favorite moment: the sword fighting scene when it becomes painfully apparent that he’s an abuse survivor. the ‘I am no one from nowhere bit’. The fireside talk. The ending, standing over that cliff.

Idea for a story: I’ve really wanted to write where, some time after the finale, he finally comes to term and claims his traumatic past. I have a lot of headcanons about the pain he endured- the boy’s home, the idea of a Spanish mother, his experience with guilt and death. Also, uh, Babydriver AU where he’s a disabled and fucking incredible get-away driver? yes pls

Unpopular opinion: The trespasses he committed against Madi and Flint were wrong without a doubt, but tremendously human and motivated by love and, equally if not more so, an incredible amount of fear and trauma.

Favorite relationship: His relationship with Flint, then Madi. 

Favorite headcanon: I used to really like the idea that he was sexually fluid from the start- he was pan or bi and certain about it and down to clown with Flint from day 1 lmao Now, I really like the idea that he has had experiences of feeling adverse to sex but especially romance, especially same-gender romance, for a very long time.

the newest developments regarding tlj really saddens me. finn is the character that initially got me into sw -- i could have cared less before. john has been on my radar for years for being a charismatic, talented & delightful actor. for lucasfilm & rian johnson & everyone else to side-cast him & his character is both a tragedy and absolutely stupid. i'm not sure if i'll watch the movie at the cinema and i'm sure many ppl will do the same. maybe lf learns their lesson then.

I never paid Star Wars a lot of attention until The Force Awakens trailer. American blockbusters were not readily available in Cuba so I didn’t really have the nostalgic connection to the films. When they were shown it was with tiny subs and I was like 5 so... By the time I came to the US Revenge of The Sith came out and I did see part of it on TV. But again it was TFA that really got me into these movies. And Finn was a big part of it. It was such an unique tale I wanted to see his journey. 

Too bad it doesn’t look like we are getting that.
