What they smell like: sweat and iron, and his own musk a little.

How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc): on his back, lightly and sporadically.

What music they enjoy: his favourite is just a person singing a soothing song with a guitar by a fire.

How much time they spend getting ready every morning: not much. mostly just a shower and a shave if he has access to them.

Their favorite thing to collect: it’s not as if he can carry much with him. maybe he has a little book of quotes or drawings.

Favorite sport: he never really had sports to play as a kid. mostly just kicking around a ball and making up rules.

Favorite touristy thing to do when traveling (museums, local food, sightseeing, etc): i don’t know, i could see him being a connoisseur of the coffees in little diner saloon type places.

Favorite kind of weather: overcast, especially with thunder.

A weird/obscure fear they have: probably the fear of the dark lasted a lot longer than he’d like to admit. also i can imagine him having bad experiences with several kinds of animals.

The carnival/arcade game they always win without fail: shooting ones :P

painful headcanon: aren’t they all. uhm on the languages thread, arih had found a resource for german and she was planning to surprise carsten with some of the phrases she learned, but never had the chance.

love headcanon: arih likes carsten’s hands. she wishes she could have held them in public

death headcanon: arih forsees her death enough to put all her affairs in order. all the people in her village come to say goodbye. she appreciates it but she wished some other people were there too

family headcanon: arih had been wanting to move back to japan for a long time before kobayashi finally died. she just didn’t feel she could deal with the fight she would get if she tried any earlier.

food headcanon: generally she prefers japanese food to what the frontiersmen mostly just get by on, but she has a special appreciation for the bratkartoffeln carsten makes (this is the only food he can make)

LAUGHS WELCOME

violent headcanon: carsten has anger issues obvs, his usual reaction to getting angry is removing himself from the situation and to the shooting gallery asap but when it’s more difficult to get away he tends to end up attempting to hide bloody knuckles from arih. she always finds out.

appearance headcanon: carsten has a pretty striking face–angular nose, strong jaw–but his eyes are kind of droopy and tired-looking and completely out of place.

friendship headcanon: carsten’s major language of love is gifts. he likes picking up things for his friends–things so inconsequential he won’t get embarrassed sometimes, like a news article he thinks someone would like, usually. sometimes he gives them more significant things, but he tries to do it when they’re not looking. most of them have the grace to never bring it up.

childhood headcanon: carsten was clumsy. mega clumsy. covered in band-aids. he worried his mother to death.

education headcanon: carsten was never very good at reading as a child, but he taught his sister all he knew anyway. he was proud of himself for knowing as much as he did and thought it was very important for a young girl to know. <3

kaeja/minnie - 3, 32, 37, 41

3. Are they open about their relationship? How do they feel about public displays of affection? at first they weren’t very open about it because kaeja wasn’t very comfortable with it even though minnie was like IM GONNA PUNCH ANYONE WHO’S NOT OK WITH IT but after a while pretty much everyone knew anyway and minnie’s enthusiasm was so overwhelming that kaeja gave in and she doesn’t mind pda anymore uwu

32. Do they ever get into trouble? Is it serious, or are they just mischievous? minnie is plenty mischievous so she gets into trouble for dumb things (‘let’s break into sea world!’ 'let’s just not go by the ticket checker guy, do you really want to spend money on the last twilight movie???’) and drags kaeja along. kaeja actually really enjoys the thrill of it though she would never admit it, and she definitely gives minnie hell whenever they get caught, because usually she gets off with a warning because of her cute innocent face.

37. How much would they be willing to sacrifice for the other? Any lines they refuse to cross? i think they would both go a long way although they both are willing to let each other cop to their little dumb mistakes because they respect each other’s independence. they would never hurt each other for any reason, either.

41. Are they party-goers? What are they like when they’re drunk? Does it happen often? neither of them really likes parties actually, you’d think minnie would because of all the energy but she just finds most of them a bit loud and crowded for her taste. she doesn’t mind the ones with friends, though, and kaeja will go along to those but probably go home early. minnie gets even louder and more aggressive when she’s drunk; kaeja gets kind of moody and irritable, but she stops after a couple drinks.

7. What annoys them the most about their partner? Would they change it if they could? arih wishes carsten would lighten up you can’t be this grumpy ALL the time. yes, she would change it. for carsten it’s something silly like she snores or she refuses to even TRY coffee ITS NOT THAT BAD HE LOVES COFFEE ITS BETTER THAN TEA WATER COME ON but he wouldn’t change it.

12. Is there a wedding? What was the proposal like? Any kind of honeymoon? for the purpose of this question let’s do an AU where they get married and not everything is terrible. carsten has been thinking about it for like two years and saving up for the ring for months and he asked kobayashi for his blessing and he was like no and carsten was like well you win some you lose some and ignores him. then he takes arih to the fanciest restaurant he can afford without getting physically anxious about the money and they go to a scenic spot carsten knows and he proposes and she’s like FINALLY and he’s like WHAT and she’s like oh nothing it’s fine yes i will marry you. they honeymoon in europe but there is no money left for any hotels or anything so they just kind of poor college student their way through europe for a few months, they enjoy it really.

15. How adventurous are they? ARIH IS VERY ADVENTUROUS carsten is not. at all. any adventures take a lot of convincing

36. What’s their greatest strength as a couple? Their weakness? i think they both care about what the other wants and they’re willing to work hard and make sacrifices for it, and i think they care about each other a lot. i think carsten being bad at emotions would be a big weakness, because arih would get frustrated and have to wait until he finally puts the words together which takes ages.

• when or if I started shipping it: SINCE ALWAYS. FOREVER (no probably it took until their western au iteration) • my thoughts: THEYRE REALLY INTERESTING AND I LOVE THEM • What makes me happy about them: i feel like they are sort of balancing influences for each other i mean it’s not as if kaeja is hasty or reckless or anything but carsten really brings out her analytical reasoning and makes her stop and think, while she definitely helps bring out his emotional side in a way not even arih does. not that he’s normally unemotional but she brings it out in a way that makes him able to deal with it and be more comfortable. • What makes me sad about them: they end up parting never really knowing whether the other is ever going to get where they’re going or anything. they leave their endings very ambiguous to each other and that’s mega sad • things done in art/fic that annoys me: n/a • things I look for in art/fic: uuu i don’t know i think i would be interested in them not so much talking about magic or the universe or what they are doing and just. talked about things they like and just had a chat as friendsiblings. • Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: obviously arih and minnie respectively • My happily ever after for them: they should just be really friends forever and go sit at outdoor cafes and harangue each other about their life decisions • what is their favorite non-sexual activity?: ok it would be SO CUTE if carsten taught kaeja how to shoot. • when or if I started shipping it: i don’t know i’m still not sure how i feel about it because it’s obviously not very healthy but oh man. poor baby lear. • my thoughts: i think it’s a very interesting relationship and a very real one that’s not really happy, and i think there’s no shortage of feelings that come from it which is always a good thing • What makes me happy about them: uuu i don’t know i think they could be really cute if they wanted to be i think if minette really thought about it she’d respect at least how hard lear tries • What makes me sad about them: LEAR TRIES REALLY HARD and MINETTE FEELS REALLY MISUNDERSTOOD and lear is just trying really hard to make it work and doesn’t understand why it doesn’t, and minette is just resigned to never being happy and man. it’s really upsetting u_u • things done in art/fic that annoys me: n/a • things I look for in art/fic: i am very interested in what they really think of each other, way deep down, maybe even that they don’t admit. • Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: hmmm not sure! o: • My happily ever after for them: idk if there is one. shrugs • what is their favorite non-sexual activity?: not talking about their problems
