I couldnt sleep last night so I was reading the blog and thinking about it a little more, remembering your past life while also technically being part of your past life as a different, fictional person has to be so fucky for your sense of identity. Even if mcs current and past incarnation were identical in every other way its still mindbendy and I'd bet a crisis of concious was the only crisis poor mc was having during their exile. On a scale from "I have lived and experienced two seperate lifetimes and am the same continous person" to "someone explaining an event after the fact to someone who was there but doesn't remember it happening" how connected is mc to their past life?

I am glad you are excited for the demo! I am going to address the rest of your ask under a read more, because my response does touch upon body dysmorphia even if it is not talked about in depth.

And oh yeah, the whole ordeal is a trip and a half. After all, the Villain is the Villain because they feel like themselves, but they are inherently different than who they were in your first life. Their parents are different in this life, so even if they have similar features, it's always going to be like the new version of themselves it's a warped reflection of who they were.

As for your question, I would say it falls somewhere in the middle. The first year after remembering was rough because the Villain saw their self in their past life and their self in this life as different individuals, which lead to some level of dysmorphia and discomfort and of wondering who was the real version of themselves. However, as time passed, the lines between the Villain's past and present lives blurred and it became a sort of "I am a continuous person and this body is mine, the same way my body in y past life is mine". It certainly helps that there are Mages that specialize in shapeshifting magic that help people change their appearance at will. Minor charms also exist, but in order to do large scale changes you have to go to the magicians. I am debating whether to add a deeper explanation of this on the game, because it is not something I am well acquainted with and too comfortable with writing, but people are also free to headcanon more relating this issue if they are interested or even sending me asks about it. I will try to do my best, but as I said, I have never experienced body dysmorphia.

But basically, the MC has memories of both lives, but memories fade and blur with time and the human mind is inherently great at adapting so by the time the story starts, the MC is comfortable with their own body.

Oooooh yeah, MC will be finding out a lot of stuff, especially since by the time they get to the Kingdom of Fear, it’s them, Lapis and Harper . . .and Lapis and Harper do NOT get along, especially since Flint and Delta aren’t there to mediate.

But the Agent of Heaven DOES already know about some of the control things -- especially back in high school, Lapis was expected to wear certain clothes, keep to a very strict diet, maintain good grades, and get home by a certain time table. While the MC never met their guardian at that time, since the Big Reveal and everything, they’ve put two and two together. . .

Of course, some MCs might NOT have put two and two together, but it’s definitely already possible to know a fair bit, especially with some of the moments that can have happened with Flint in the past -- he may have opened up to some MCs during the times when he was trying to get them and Lapis back together~

(And excellent, I’m reeeeeeaaaaally thinking about it lately, especially since Lapis has crystal themed powers, and gemstones + long hair is such a good combination. . . .)

OH SHIT YOU MEANT ALPHA ALPHAS WKFKWKKFKSKKFKS WHOOPS okay lemme answer your previous question here as well:

What determines if someone is an Alpha is a matter of debate, but it is not magic, no. In fact, magic is very bad for Alphas as whatever makes them exist reacts badly with it. The researchers at the Advocacy note several genetic differences between humans and Alphas, but not enough to where they can't reproduce together, just enough to suggest Alphas are a new species that are beginning to break off from humans. So, you could definitely call it evolution; the steady change in humans over time eventually lead to Alphas. But, at the same time, two humans can have a child who is an Alpha, and in crossings between humans and Alphas, there can still be totally normal children or children with very low/latent abilities and lack the other Alpha traits. It's all very mysterious, maybe in time more will be known... 👀

As for the Advocacy:

Well, the distrust between the Advocacy and Alphas is actually much more modern than MC makes it sound. It really started about 50 years prior, maybe a little more or little less, when Alphas in contact with the Advocacy and even agents began to slowly but steadily... disappear. No notes left, no last calls, everything left in perfect order. Almost like they vanished. Now, that coupled with the groups vying for the power and artifacts the Advocacy holds spreading rumors and sowing distrust even further? It has caused the relationship MC has with the Advocacy.

But don't you worry, you WILL find out what's causing Alphas to disappear in Book 4. :-)

Ooh I like the desert motif and the Ozymandias parallels. They work especially well with how destructive anger can be in general and how self-destructive mc's particular brand of anger seems to be. The desolation themes suits them well, I think.

And it's gonna be a fun space to play in with a particularly "stormy" mc I've been toying with in my head for a while now. I imagine the rain she's been running from is gonna catch up to her soon no matter how much she'd rather it didn't, after all.

Thank you~~~ I’m also thinking in addition to some Lucifer motifs, the Velveteen Rabbit is a very good touchstone for Iriel’s character and character arc up until the beginning of the story. . . so that’ll be fun to play around with~~

(This is relevant to me because whenever the MC references things like Ozymandias or the Sword of Damocles or the cliffs Zeus use to throw himself off of in order to forget how in love with Hera he was, it’s coming from Iriel. Iriel is obsessed with that kind of stuff, but doesn’t let themselves actually engage with it.)

Thank you!!! I have so much lore and races I want to eventually reveal, it's hard not to continuously start series to do so LOL

Being Alpha is usually passed down from the parent who is the Alpha onto the eldest or the next who is more fitting/would make a better Alpha. However, if an Alpha dies with no children or the children are very small, the Beta will take to being Alpha or the Betas will fight out to see who gets the honor. Wolves can also challenge the Alpha for their place. If the wolf wins, they become the new Alpha, but if they lose... they will either be killed or exiled.
