I am baffled and horrified for what is happening to @fuckboyregulus with their stories. This post doesn’t have the intention of being necessarily a support post (they know how to mend for themselves), but I am having a pretty crappy day so I feel really angry and put out from all the hatred and toxic behaviours in the HP fandom. And on tumblr too. I mean, toxic behaviours have always been there, but I think lately we are reaching points of non-return.
I have been in the HP fandom since I was 14, reading and writing fanfiction, even when I didn’t know how to put two sentences together. It’s always been my safe zone, my life-saving rope because I had a pretty shitty childhood and adolescence. And now that I am 28 yo I am still vibing and thriving in the fandom. I am devouring stories written by people who put themselves and their traumas into it, and that’s what make fanfictions so beautiful, so alive, so heartwarming. We connect through these characters, through our mutual traumas. I don’t even have to know these people real names, I just know what they feel. Because that’s what I feel too.
So, seeing an author being bullied this way, and heavily threatened makes me not only angry, but furious. Seeing them having to take down their stories - stories I enjoyed reading - because of it… well, it makes me lose another piece of hope in humanity. And that’s already law on my part. And makes me scared too, because what if I come to be on that part? What if I am threatened too like that? I am 28 yo and like writing fanfictions and sometime they can portray teenage characters having sex (because that happens, I did that too) and maybe also being pregnant. It doesn’t make me a pedophile. It just makes me want to write a story. I hope those who think that have never read A Song of Ice And Fire because you would definitely find yourselves scarred for the rest of your life with what’s in those books (and trust me, teenagers having consensual sex is nothing compared to that). Or do you think that the young-adult novels with teenage characters who kiss and do sexual things and that you like are not written by authors in their 30s or 40s o even 50s? And I bet there would be a lot more sex in books if editors don’t ask them to erase it because of people like you. I don’t know if you are all minors who are bullying people like this, but if you are, well… your parents and schools are doing a shitty job raising you. I am sorry. But you can still grow up and mature, that’s the good thing of being young. I just hope you can come out of your bubble of Heartstoppers and understand how real life is and let people enjoy things. And if you don’t like something just DON’T read!!
