Ch206 (p3), The "aptitudes" that you reared

While Snake starts to have a mental breakdown, Artie notices something and alerts Oliver and Theo to the danger.

The head matron and Susan have caught up to the kids again and continue to shoot, shattering another organ jar.

Even Doll seems annoyed at the intrusion from the staff. The head matron tells them their "game of tag" is over, that they have no map or weapons, and that they must obey their teachers/the authority.

She talks mostly to Theo, as assumed leader of the pack, and he feigns agreeing with her. Then he calls to Mabel while signaling to use his hands as a lift up.

Mabel springs into action and gives the head matron a hard kick to the head, leaving Susan as the last staff member there (for now, anyway...).

Susan shows she cares way more about a hefty paycheck than she ever could about those kids. But Mabel's attack also serves as distraction, and Oliver gets behind Susan with a large knife that the staff didn't know he had.

Oliver. Bless him. 😅

Then Theo asks what Susan (and the injured head matron, I guess) think of these "aptitudes" they've cultivated in the top students.

Feeling truly defeated, Susan drops her gun, and Theo sighs with relief.

Growing up in a wealthy and respected family in the Black Shroud, combat was not a part of her life or a plan for her future. While she typically carries a dagger on her person and has made use of it before, her martial combat knowledge is little more than common sense assumptions and observations. She has no actual practice or training with weaponry. She has always preferred her wits and her tongue in confrontation, and failing that... her wits and her magic.

Raised in the Twelveswood, Faye was tutored in conjury from an early to ensure she could look after herself. In her adulthood, she has decided that conjury is not the ideal fit for her and has begun to study other sorts of aetherical manipulation, trying to find a balance and working toward finding a way to combine their basic principles. She has only just begun her studies and is driven to continue on.

She was, however, taught weaving and embroidery from her mother and continued it as a hobby, and she picked up some practical skills along the way... though cooking well was unfortunately not one of them.

Life in the Shroud pursuing conjury meant plenty of time spent among nature. While she was still prissy to enjoy breaking apart rocks or fishing creatures from lakes, a love for flowers and pretty greenery did help her learn a thing or two.
