28 April 2019: Celebrating each other amongst other things

Our spiritual family, who we make Zikr (meditation) with and mark other Islamic occasions, plans family orientated social events every so often. One such occasion was a trip to a local environment called Giba Gorge, not far from Durban. 

It happened the day after a public holiday in South Africa called Freedom Day.  I didn’t manage the hike because my wheelchair isn’t exactly a 4x4 vehicle! Nevertheless, I had the pleasure of the company of Aunty Gava who felt she couldn’t manage the hike and my caregiver Nqobile, who is young but chose not to hike even though I insisted.

Shaykh Nishaat appealed to me to do a write-up about the day and this is what I came up with. I was surprised by how quickly this took me, I had it ready by a day or two, Alhamdulillah! I hope you find it tolerable!

Celebrating our Freedom

It was the day after Freedom Day and we celebrated a blissfully rain free day

We took a nice amble to the waterfall which was longer than we expected, to commemorate our special pay

We were rewarded glorious sunshine, ray after ray

 A scrumptious lunch awaited us

Which we gobbled without a fuss

Amidst jokes from Uncle Shamim and Shaykh Nishaat that were on the roll

Making our hearts and bellies from laughing, full

 When we all went home, we all had a grand sleep

We didn’t even give our phones a peep

What a beautiful commemoration and trip!

“Why am I alone? Among all the people surrounding me“

Self portrait as a warm up exercise, I will be drawing you and your biases all evening tonight! I tried to put a different spin on the digital drawing today, like how I would sketch with a normal pencil, but this is seriously so difficult! But I must say I much more used to the feel of using a stylus and a tablet now, thanks to you all cuties sending me your pictures and letting me draw you! <3 <3
