I JUST NEED LARGE FILTER INTAKE COVERS, IT SHOULDN'T BE THIS HARD
ATTENTION WORLD: Tapping on the window will NOT make the sea turtle come over to you
Pro tip: It also doesn't work for sharks, fish, stingrays, or any other animal at a zoo or aquarium. Please stop pestering my animals.
No, you need to calm the flow, that's why I'm looking for filter covers, you turn my tank into a whirlpool and the baby shrimp can't take it
My betta has too much pizzazz for that much flow, you're tying his crowntail in knots
I had to buy a turtle rock to act as a buffer
LESS FLOW
Things I will never forgive Boy Scouts for:
1. Stealing my waterproof camera during marine biology camp in high school 2. Scratching their troop number into one of the NEW windows of our shark habitat (I am so full of RAGE over this 😡😡😡) 3. Getting to do cool things like camping when I got stuck with wearing a lame vest and selling overpriced cookies
The smell of blue-green algae is so obnoxious and it won't come off my hands 😨
Arrived at work this morning to find 100L of water all over the floor, as the 150L had cracked over the weekend.... what a great way to start the week.
Several updates on Bob The Fish who will henceforth be known as Cocoa. She is a fancy goldfish in a brand new 10 gallon tank. I used API’s QuickStart system, which claimed I could put fishy in the tank immediately. From personal experience I would now NOT recommend doing this, as Cocoa has been suffering immensely.
Night 1: At first the water was clear and Cocoa was fine - very energetic and swimming all around, picking up gravel and having a good time. However as time went on she became became stressed, going to the surface of the tank and breathing air. I tested the water repeatedly but there was nothing “wrong” that I could see with the results, so I bought a bubbler to give her more air, and went to bed worried.
Morning 1: the tank was now white and cloudy and there were tiny air bubbles over everything. Cocoa was still breathing, but stuck upside down on a decorative plant. I righted her and she floated up to the surface. She didn’t seem able to move on her own. She was covered in mucus and tiny bubbles, so I turned off the bubbler as it wasn’t helping.
Evening 2: I spent all day trying to figure out what was wrong but to no avail. The tank was still milky looking; the best I could tell from google it was either a bacterial bloom (which would be good) or ammonia, but tests indicated zero ammonia. Cocoa was still completely immobile and floating at the surface. Still breathing, though. Respiration seemed rather high. I went to bed without much hope.
Morning 2: Cocoa is still alive! I’d sort of trapped her in the corner with the decorative plants to make sure she didn’t get tossed around by the filter overnight again, and she actually tried to wiggle a bit when I let her out. Her respiration is a lot slower and less frantic than it has been and she actually managed to sort of wiggle and swim her way down to the bottom corner of the tank, which after basically 24 hours of being immobile is a HUGE improvement. I sprinkled a bit of food for her, but I’m going to go out and get some that sinks since google tells me floating flakes are terrible for goldfish; they suck in air which gets stuck in their intestines.
Chris and I have been discussing moving into a different unit in our building that gets more sunlight because I hate how dark our apartment is and even on the balcony I can only grow partial shade plants (which means no cukes or peppers for me, which are my favorite things to grow).
So tomorrow we’re supposed to go to the leasing office and see what’s available on the third floor.
... but I just realized tonight that if we move, that means moving the 75 gallon. The 75 gallon that I just got looking nice and cycled and filled with fish.
UGH I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT WANT TO TEAR DOWN THAT HUGE TANK BUT I ALSO AM DYING TO HAVE SOME SEMBLANCE OF A GARDEN.
