It felt ethereal. An ethereal dream in paradise. A beautiful scene of cherry blossom petals drizzling like a gentle snowfall. Ara felt like she was on cloud nine. You walking down the isle, your eyes sparkling with tears of happiness. The wedding music chimed in the background, soft and melodic. Much like how Ara liked to described your voice, it sounded like a harmony of carefully picked out tones to make a euphonious song.
A blinding smile that could light up the world sat on your face, mirroring Ara’s same smile. Her hands fiddled with the gloves she wore, an unsettling feeling wrapping Ara’s head. Still, she never took her eyes off you. Never could she look away from those loving, sweet eyes she’s come to love. Never could she look away from those soft, lovely lips that she wanted to kiss oh-so-badly. Never could she look away from your soft locks that framed your face perfectly. Oh how angelic you looked. A flower petal fell onto your nose, and Ara felt her heart melt at the pure laugh that fell from your mouth. The cherry blossom floated down onto the floor. Ara thought it was a bit odd as cherry blossoms symbolized a short life, death being just around the corner. But nonetheless, Ara found it fitting.
A part of her died as you walked past her.
Salty tears fell down her face, her smile breaking, albeit slowly. It’s been God knows how long since she’s known you were in love with someone else. She’s learned to put up a strong front whenever loving, affectionate praises tumbled out of your mouth excitedly. She liked to listen to you ramble and pretend that you were talking about her. Of course, it never really was about her, now was it? All she was was the second lead in your love story.
But she couldn’t be mad at you. Not ever, she didn’t have it in her. Hating you just felt wrong, despite all the pain she’s reminded off every time you smile. She couldn’t bring herself to do it. Not when she was so, so in love with you. Was it selfish? Selfish to want you all to herself? She’s never wanted someone so much, so badly... Yet she couldn’t have this one person. It hurts, stings.
A yell of Ara’s name brought her back to her senses. How long had she been spacing out? Rena tapped her shoulder gently, with Aisha, the one who yelled her name, behind her. She slowly blinked out of her trance, and quickly put on a smile. Rena gave a knowing look, though very discreetly, and mouthed ‘We can talk about it later.’ Rena jerked her thumb back to point at the rest of the bridesmaids standing in front of the newlywed couple. Oh, it was the time to catch the bouquet. Ara stood up abruptly, nodding at Rena in thanks.
Ara stumbled her way into the crowd, hugging her arms close. She couldn’t help but smile when she looked up. You noticed Ara’s stiffness, and gave her a reassuring grin. With a cheesy wink and a fingergun or two, Ara loosened up. With such a warm and welcoming demeanor, Ara couldn’t help it. Laughs of joy and excitement bubbled around her. A countdown echoed through the room, ‘How dramatic,’ she thought. But she never expected less from you. Overreacting in the cutest ways. She shook her head at the thought and almost didn’t notice a giant bouquet of plants flying towards her. Almost.
Gasps and loud cackles were heard as the flowers landed on her head with a thud. It slid down onto the floor. As Ara bent down to pick it up, she noticed a browning flower petal next to the bouquet. Was... Was this the same one that fell on your nose? She stared at it. It was already dead.
Ironic.
