@featherquilt1988 you like the last line, so here are the finished sketches ;)
Can't resist a good ol' leaf pile!
How Fives and Echo really lost their helmets The helmets wandered off like this.
Part 1
Part 2
Thanks to @marbled-polecat for the idea!
Echo doesn't have Rex’s hand print on his new armor after Skako minor for 2 reason's.
1) It's Rex's handprint and Rex doesn't think he is ready for active duty. Until Rex believes he's ready he doesn't want to ask him.
2) The second reason is more depressing. Echo doesn't feel he belongs anymore. Rex says to him "hopefully it will be just like old times", but we can see that Echo feels the enormity of that simple statement. For Rex he's saying I accept you, you're the same person. But Echo doesn't feel that way. He pauses as and repeats it while Rex walks on to the shuttle. How could he? He's been blown up and literally had his brain rewired. He's got prosthetic legs and a droid scomp. He can process data like an R2 unit. He's been used like a droid to help the enemy with no automy of his own. How can things ever go back to like old times?
Rex is clearly trying to show he accepts Echo, but I think Echo sees it as a challenge. I'm supposed to be what Rex still thinks I am, but too much has changed. He feels he is going to disappoint Rex when things aren't like old times, so how can he ask for his handprint?
He puts the bb skull on his armor because he came back from the dead and the bad batch rescued him. They did it with Rex's help but it's Tech who freed him, from that computer. Just like it was Rex that shot that eel and saved him, Fives, and Hevy. Even though Cody also helped. See a pattern? There is no sun on his armor. As much as he wants it to be like old times, it isn't. The lack of a Rex's handprint is his acknowledgement of that😭
By the time he realizes Rex understands him the Bad Batch is leaving and there isn't time to get Rex's hand print, and since he's not going to be with the 501st anymore it seems fitting to him. Even if later it makes tears leak out his eyes when everyone thinks he is asleep in his hammock. Change is hard but especially when you've been chewed up and used the way he has. It's hard to leave Rex and the 501st behind but he knows this is where he belongs now even as he mourns the loss of who he used to be.
Same energy.
Had to take off his kama to get a better look at his armor and..
