If they hadn't made that deal with the most memorable character from season 1, many things we saw in the story wouldn't have happened.

Marcus and Floki made a deal with someone who was smarter and more cunning than them, and in the end, one died and the other was left with nothing.

Marcus's daughter as well as Maddie's niece all grown up.

I have a hunch Caitlyn felt guilty that she couldn't tell Ren what her father's last words were. Ren feel into a deep depression, orphaned at age 5. She withdrew from people and lost interest in her hobbies. Half the times she hardly left her room. Then after Caitlyn had that fall out with Vi she confided in Maddie who was looking after Ren at the time. At the time Maddie was charming, leaving Caitlyn unaware of her Noxian allegiance. She thought she was doing the right thing at the time being a mother figure to a grieving Ren, even Maddie was quite taken by this. But sadly, Caitlyn still missed Vi and regretted the things she said. Something Maddie was most likely aware of.

After Maddie was discovered to be a Noxian spy, Ren was left in Caitlyn's hands for good. Still now the girl officially lost her family. Her mother died while giving birth to her twin brother who also perished, her father was a traitor, and now her auntie was a traitor. Ren started to fear if she'd become a traitor too just like them. Caitlyn still had her own demons to deal with after the war, but she was determined to raise Ren with Vi to become a smart, capable, and kind young woman. When Rex was adopted by Vi, she seemed to perk up. Despite him being a couple years older than her it gave her a playmate to be around. She was starting to come out of her shell little by little. Seeing as her foster mothers and foster brother were in the police force, Ren wanted to join them. But during her test a teammate had gotten hurt really badly, there was so much blood Ren started having a panic attack. She pictured her father's blood on the bridge. The closed caskets... Ren dropped out, her fear of blood clearly a hindrance to her team. Still she couldn't help but feel ashamed and aimless now. That was until Glimmer came into her life. She seemed just as lost as she was in life, but this wild girl with a gift of seeing the future left her intrigued. She didn't feel as left behind with Glimmer around. In time they fell in love.

i made an arcane au with a friend a while back, after we got really mad at season 2 for doing season 2 things. Vi gets taken in by Marcus and groomed to be an enforcer instead of getting shoved into a prison during season 1.
