Second Semester, Third Year Final Project

Site: Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Our design unit embraced the view that resilience principles enable communities to adapt and transform and therefore our design philosophies followed a post-conflict resilient approach. The site was a disused power station that had been heavily damaged during the siege in Sarajevo. It was situated on a busy junction on the north side of the River Miljacka in the municipality Novo Sarajevo. My project focused on the sites relationship with the disused River Miljacka that runs through the heart of Sarajevo and I combined the programme of a river conservation trust with private baths along with a bank side river filtration system. My materiality choices reflected my programme through the use of recycled gabions, constructed using the demolished ruin. I then used them as cladding for the changing area which created a diffused lighting throughout the interior spaces and also as walls for the outdoor filtration and swimming pools.

Oh these three years have gone so fast yet slow in parts but I’m happy its all over! We had our final exhibition last week and I’ve already got job offers.
Heres to life as a graduate and for the year a Part 1 Architectural Assistant.

As much as I adore Beyonce, this is slightly better than the original. Her voice is just perfect. Lets hope I survive my tutorial tomorrow.

At St Catherine’s College on the 21st of October 2014, the RIBA hosted a Design Leadership Summit with a list of guest speakers presenting ideas based around the digital revolution of Architecture and the future ahead. It was a day full of innovative project ideas designed to prompt an informed audience to think about alternative solutions and suggest how perhaps the Construction and Architecture industries are changing for the better via digital technology and true team management.....
