2020’s Wedding Dress - Dress #7 Images 1 -7 This year’s dress features a tulle sculpture that was an over dress. To me it seems like tulle is really a symbol for wedding dresses . . .and it’s really fun to spin around with. People seem to recognize my wedding dresses as wedding dresses more when there is tulle involved. lol. Then there was also an under jumpsuit. This year Clint made the fabric print for the jumpsuit which I LOVE. The design for that fabric and the jumpsuit . . . well they evolved from dreams we were receiving from the future . . . . it was very strange. . . To be continued. . . . Last year he wore a custom suit my mom @klwhittle made him for the opening of #archiveasaction from his custom fabric of his comic characters. Another Post leading up to this year’s Wedding Dress is all the BEAUTIFUL portraits @Graceduval took last year of each of the 6 past dresses. The first 5 dresses are images she took at #Spikow2 which was an event that reenacted all of the performances from our original wedding (#spikow) and added new ones. This was a highly collaborative event and the last performance event I initiated at the @cincycac for the 3 person exhibition #archiveasaction in 2019. All of the dresses were on exhibit spread out throughout the Museum in the two weeks leading up to #spikow2. Grace took sooooo many beautiful portraits I had to collage a few together to choose 10. The last image grace took at @facility_chicago during #fallafaire2019 She would have shot that dress at #spikow2 - but it didn’t exist yet lol!! Sorry - had to repost bc some images were black??? It was such a privilege to get out some work and spread some inspiration for the holidays for Found - Windows of Wonder put on by @agaragency @3cdc_official @hailefdn and @artworkscincy (Post 1 of 2) This window will feature live performance by @ponesinc on Dec 18 at 7 pm- you can watch from the street (1300 Main st #Cincy OH) or HERE on my Instagram live. I worked on shifting the sculpture I commissioned @adams3215 to weld from drawings I gave him in 2018-2019. (I also commissioned Adam to make that incredible white pedestal in this image) This shape was about a shape Clint and I drew together. The first version of this sculpture was an interactive piece that was displayed on magnets at @cincycac during #archiveasaction. Version 2 got a new layer of stretch mesh with a print featuring the performance @ladythundermaker (image of fabric included) and I did for the opening of Archive As Action. Also for version 2 the display is through stretch mesh tubes that can also be brought to the body. This piece has been a beautiful and heavy journey for me, and Version 2 was about reclaiming it’s voice from someone trying to hijack it. I also was grateful for a chance to get last years collection back out. Clint and I have been working on a teamwork collection together this year. But I really want to find good homes for the 2019 Spikow Prequel collection first. I am working on getting all of these things listed on my website. But . . I have to make wedding dress first lol The Spikow Prequel collection is about Clint and I using our marriage as an art collective as we were at the 5 year mark last year. This collection has 9 (still for sale out of 11 total) interactive table top Plexiglass sculptures, 5 collaborative jewelry pieces, and 3 clothing items. 2 of the shirts I hand beaded. The jewelry collection was made by @tricialenzergottschall All the metal is sterling silver and all the of jump rings were made by hand so that the charms can be removed to make mini sculptures. I am working on version 2 of this 12 piece sculpture/performance objects for my FOUND window installation in downtown #cincinnati next week. This piece has been a loaded experience for me and I am grateful for a chance to try find my voice in it again. The print layer that I am adding, was a textile digital collage a made from images @graceduval took of the performance @ladythundermaker and I did with this sculpture at the opening of #archiveasaction in Feb 2019 at the @cincycac. I hope to continue to layer it with fabric that represent its action history over time (2 performances in its immediate future!) @adams3215 welded the metal for the 12 shapes from my drawings. So MANY of my incredible friends spent hours and hours sewing the solid color shapes with me last year, and @cosmicmoustachecomics is sewing the printed panels with me presently. FYI - Clint and I pretty regularly work through holidays lol But As always - Grateful for my village. Grateful for my teammate Clint. Grateful to be moving my artwork forward. I make digital collages of past work that I want to keep alive. Dissecting and mining images/stills for interesting non-objective shapes allows me to consider the important aspects of the work, and I want to continue with. The final collage becomes part of my print language that I project light through, and/or I get printed on fabric/clothing so that I can take my art ideas out of traditional art spaces and into my daily life. These prints are a conversation with the original work but also separate. This particular college I made to submit to the exhibition #A(artistic)xI(nteresting)xP(owerful) . This exhibition is organized by @Lorainewibleart, @stevekemple and myself. It is a show about 2020 and how covid forced us into a limbo digital/physical combination space. I worked on this collage because I used a video/animation that Loraine made in reaction to #interiorcastles , a performance where Steve Kemple wrote an 8 person choir piece from hypnotism notes, from sessions under “ The Other World” photograph @graceduval and I made for #archiveasaction at @cincycac. I wanted the documentation of the performance, which was installed after, to be it’s own experience. So Loraine interpreted the footage for us. Her result is something that took many minds and a digital/physical combination to get there. The first collage is my favorite. But I included a few variations.
