The National Archives holds over 13.5 BILLION pieces of paper, and some fascinating pieces can be found in The Center for Legislative Archives. In recognition of #AmericanArchivesMonth, explore the records available within The Center: https://archives.gov/legislative. The Center for Legislative Archives preserves and makes available the historical records of the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and other legislative branch organizations and commissions.

The Center uses these historical records to enhance public understanding of Congress through reference and public outreach.

Happy Archives Month!

We hold fast to our fasteners, actually, we remove them when we can. Processing older records puts archivists in contact with some really unique ways people used to “hold it together.”

On October 7, archivists around the country will take to Twitter to answer your questions about any and all things archives. This day-long event, sponsored by the Society of American Archivists will give you the opportunity to connect directly with archivists in your community - and around the country - to ask questions get information, or just satisfy your curiosity. As professional experts who do the exciting work of protecting and sharing important historical materials, archivists have many stories to share about the work they do every day in preserving fascinating documents, photographs, audio and visual materials, and artifacts. Archival work extends beyond the physical and includes digital materials. #AskAnArchivist Day will give you a chance to connect with archivists who are tackling the challenges of preserving our digital heritage for the future. To participate, all you need is a Twitter account. Ask your questions including the hashtag #AskAnArchivist. Include @IngallsLibrary for questions specific to the Cleveland Museum of Art. October is American Archives Month, so here in the Conservatory Library’s special collections we are highlighting the Milton J. and Mona C. Hinton Collection, the personal archive of jazz bassist and photographer Milt Hinton and his wife Mona. This collection contains over 160 linear feet of materials created or compiled by the Hintons over the course of their lives — including letters, datebooks, contracts, newspaper clippings, interviews, artifacts, awards, and much more. American Archives Month

October is American Archives Month, a time to celebrate the treasures and stories in our archives. Hennepin County Library Special Collections has over 400 archival collections. Most document life in our county from the 1800s to today. The collections include everything from meeting minutes and budgets to personal letters and family photos. In addition, we have subject and biographical files focused on businesses, topics, and individuals in Hennepin County history. If you have a question about local history, we are happy to help.

Moreover, our archival collections are the source of many of the Hennepin County Library Digital Collections. Our digital collections are growing every week, so check back often!

The American Archives Month exhibit will be on display through October 2019.
