Rating dog sledding games

Dog Sled Saga

Pros:

+ variety of dog types/breeds

+ dogs come with individual strengths/weaknesses

+ dog sled races and rankings

+ breeding your best to the best to make the best

+ dog booties

+ a never ending game

Cons:

- 2D side scrolling pixel game

- no environmental exploration

- not a survival game

- don’t need to feed your dogs :(

- it’s ONLY races and race prep

- doesn’t really have a story

The Red Lantern

Pros:

+ variety of dog types/breeds

+ dogs come with individual strengths/weaknesses

+ dogs come with backstories!!! you bond with them!

+ you can pat the dogs

+ beautiful graphics and narration simply gorgeous

+ survival don’t starve!

+ gotta feed and water your dogs

+ dog booties

Cons:

- single POV only

- can’t control the sled

- no environmental exploration

- kinda expensive

- ends quickly :(

Arctico (formerly Eternal Winter)

Pros:

+ you can control the sled

+ nice minimal indie aesthetic

+ open world exploration

+ first person and third person views

+ survival don’t starve!

+ gotta feed and water your dogs

+ you can build the dogs a heated kennel

+ can play with a friend

+ a never ending game

Cons:

- no dog type or breed variety

- no dog strength/weaknesses/backstories/personalities

- minimal tutorial

- no dog booties

- kinda empty but it IS the arctic

tldr: they’re all good games brent

#the red lantern #dog sled saga #arctico #dog sledding #indie games #dog games #dogsingames #aesthetic #gaming #video games #i like them all for different reasons!!!!#but if i could combined the red lanterns graphics and dog individuals with the arctico open world i'd be very happy #but out of all of these i see arctico as the one im going to spend most of my time in because OPEN WORLD EXPLORATION and its a HUGE HONKING #WORLD with lots of things to peace together to work out why you're the only one???#honorable mention to Husky Express the korean MMO racing game comparable to alicia online but was discontinued years ago #second honorable mention to The Flame in the Flood #which isn't a dog sledding game #but you do have a dog and its survival exploration #and the dog has a backpack #i REALLY enjoyed the red lantern it was just awfully short for the price but it is also support your new game companies #i wish it had an endless mode at least if not exploration #while arctico has all the red lantern lacks but doesn't have that beautiful music and narration #but thats okay they're different games and they're both fun and pretty in their own way #sled dog saga is more like an addictive arcade game tho lol #these are all my screenshots and i want you all to know a moose ran over me while mushing the dogs in the red lantern and i think i got an #achievement for it???#very realist 10/10 would have a moose break my arm again

#arctico #gifs #indie games #video games #gaming #dog sledding #dogsingames #steam #AESTHETIC #dogs #animals #cute #spamming the hastahgs because how has this adorable cheap game not been posted on tumblr before?#sure it's been early access for 4 years but its being made by like one person?#and the world is rather empty seeming but it IS the arctic and i am finding lots of interesting things #like a whole ass abandoned cave mine #it's sooooo peaceful #and only $4!!!!#and you can co-op which i haven't tried yet not sure if thats pick a dedicated friend #or an online world we all drop in which would be neat #also you can pat the dogs #tbh the ONLY con so far is a) the name is a bitch to spell and #b) i wish i could change the dogs to look like spaniels (i tried a texture switch crashed the game)#and c) the harness is weird #it looks like the game did used to be like the long dark with hunting but they removed that and made it more exploration fishing #which i am :( sad i missed giving that a go but this version is also cute #maybe they'll bring hunting back one day #the previous game looks so much my vibe too #literally a long dark sled dog saga mash up and i YEARN for that game #why can we not have both the soothing expo game and the long dark with dogs adjacent game
