Headcanons of things I think happened during the Grindeldore summer of 1899:
- Gellert and Albus experimented with dark magic together.
- Gellert and Albus made a farmer angry due to them trespassing and they ran away from him giggling together.
- Albus told Gellert how he felt exhausted with how well behaved he had to be and wished he would have broken more school rules.
- Gellert told Albus that he had horrible visions of war and for the first time in Gellert’s life he wasn’t judged for it.
- Albus manipulated a book store owner into selling them a banned book they both really wanted. Albus felt bad about that afterwards.
- The pair travelled to the beach together and swam in the sea, it was their first non Godrics Hollow date.
- Ariana saw Albus and Gellert kissing.
- Gellert and Albus kissed on top of Ignotus Peverell’s grave.
- Gellert carved their initials into a tree they both sat at. It was a romantic gesture.
- Ariana Dumbledore kept a diary of the whole summer and shut it with magic so to this day no one knows what she wrote inside it.
- Gellert brought Albus an incredibly expensive bracelet and planned to give it to him on his birthday. Ariana then died three days before Albus’ birthday so Gellert never gave it to him.
Some of My Harry Potter Hot Takes and Headcanons
Ariana accidentally saw Albus and Gellert kiss but took their secret to her grave.
Gellert and Ariana were friends, he agreed to Albus’ wish that they take her with them when they ran away, and her death shook him almost as deeply as it shook her brothers.
Harry got Parseltongue abilities from his mother, not from the Horcrux, because Lily is a descendant of a female Gaunt Squib and Parselmouth is a matrilineal trait.
Draco and Harry are both dog people and adopted several puppies over the years.
Molly is not actually a great mother or person.
Sirius is the best parent in the series by a mile.
Narcissa taught Draco everything she knew about astronomy.
Snape was Draco’s summer tutor in other subjects for many years before Draco came to Hogwarts, and on breaks Draco in turn liked to “tutor” Snape on what he’d learned about the stars.
Draco was below only Eileen, Lily, and Dumbledore on the extremely-short list of people for whom Snape had a genuine soft spot.
Harry had a crush on Cedric.
Harry/Cho > Harry/Ginny
Ginny is as cruel to Fleur and Ron as many of the Slytherin “bullies” are to the Gryffindors in HBP; Harry only starts to crush on her when she essentially develops Draco’s personality.
Hinny is toxic on basically every level.
Lucius and Narcissa are only abusive to Draco in the psychological/emotional sense, having raised him on stories of relatives being disowned and kicked to the streets for questioning their beliefs, which caused him to subconsciously assume (falsely) that their love for him was conditional. But there’s never been any physical abuse and Lucius is still one of the better dads in the series.
Though Percy was mistaken in trusting the Ministry, he was totally justified in distancing himself from his family after the way they treated him.
Fred and George are psychopaths without a shred of regret over traumatizing and almost killing their brother, selling date r*pe drugs, and leaving a guy to starve in limbo between two different places.
After Ron, the first Weasley to clock Harry’s true feelings for Draco was Arthur.
Draco forgave Harry for Sectumsempra the moment it happened because part of him felt he deserved it and he saw the horrified guilt in Harry’s eyes.
The Room of Requirement kiss was not Ron and Hermione’s first kiss.
Draco is actually incredibly brave, and to anyone who calls him spineless or cowardly, I’d like to see you work up the nerve to tell a lie that risks your entire family’s lives just because it’s the right thing to do, or know exactly what to do and say when a masked man starts attacking you while you’re cornered and weaponless.
Wolfstar is overrated and largely incompatible with canon.
Harry forgave Dumbledore way too quickly and the conclusion of his arc of questioning Dumbledore is horrifically rushed and sloppy.
Harry only waxed poetic about Snape’s love for Lily in front of Voldemort to rub it in his archnemesis’ face that he was fooled and deceived for decades; actually, the thought of the abusive teacher who made his life hell wanting to bang his mom made him nauseous and he never let himself dwell on it again.
Thinking about Ariana Dumbledore knitting as a way to try and keep calm. She tells Albus she’ll make him a pair of beautiful socks for his birthday and he smiles and nods dismissively. She spends weeks on intricate colorwork, putting all her love into them and dies right before finishing. Albus sees her living to give him the socks in the mirror of Erised and him Actually appreciating them. He keeps the unfinished pair in the drawer beside his bedside (She’s already made Aberforth a pair that he’d worn until even patching spells couldn’t keep them together)
*Dumbledore siblings playing truth and dare, the bottle spins towards albus *
Aberfoth - Ok choose one, truth or dare?
Albus- Truth
Aberforth - confess a secret
Albus - Um I have a crush on Gellert
Ariana - Albus, he said a secret
Ariana Dumbledore! Thought a lot about her recently, also wanted to practice some backgrounds

Rambling post inspired by a recent post…what would Dumbledore see in the Mirror of Erised? Probably his full family (Parents, brother, sister, nephew) AND his lover, all united, on the good side, growing old together happily.
And then I thought…okay, what if we do reverse some events…what if the fateful duel in 1899 had not happened, Ariana had not died, and Gellert had grown a consciences/heart and stayed with Albus & Aberforth?
Mind you…Ariana would still be alive and require assistance for the rest of her life, however long/short it’d be. Aberforth would technically be required to return to Hogwarts soon. And in spring 1900, Aberforth’ son would be born and Gellert would 100% find out about him.
So…we would have a full bachelor household, of “head of house” Albus, 18, magical genius but frustrated and probably subpar ability to manage a household, Gellert, 17, also magical genius but still psychopathic, insane, potentially cruel and possessive, Aberforth, 15, down to earth and could manage the household but mostly away at school involuntarily, Ariana, 14, magically instable as heck and finally Aurelius, a baby.
This is either a recipe for disaster or for one hell of a Victorian comedy series.
