@arianimates Dogi
Just wanted to say I very much appreciate you being civil when it comes to disagreements on things.
While I dislike Catradora as a ship, I do like to see how others think about it, and unfortunately I'm used to people assuming I'm homophobic or something for disliking it, so your blog is a breath of fresh air.
Just wanted to say thanks 👍
same right back to you. unfortunately i've learned that the critical side of tumblr is not as civil as i expected, but rather more like a hivemind, and treats people who actually genuinely enjoy the media their fandom is based around as stupid and beneath them. i also believe in freedom of fiction to be interpreted outside of real life however the audience pleases, though apparently that's not compatible with constructive criticism and i can't do both simultaneously. interactions on this blog have made me consider deactivating it a few times, but i'm holding out for the decent discussions that can hopefully still be had.
i absolutely do not think antis of any given WLW/MLM ship are inherently homophobic and it's ridiculous that stans immediately jump to that non-argument in order to "own" us, so i'm sorry you get that often. that being said, i've found people tend to be harsher on their standards for the former and it is worth mentioning that one of the anti-catradora points about them being debated as sisters is based on the age-old harmful and systemic erasure of sapphics & lesbians. i've gone more in-depth about this on another blog but to keep it simple:
they never saw each other that way, and growing up together doesn't (necessarily) make two people family/related
the showrunner & crew had to work really hard to avoid censorship by keeping them as nothing more than "close childhood friends" until the climax, which allowed denial to run rampant
the books that describe them as such were denounced as inaccurate due to dreamworks' censorship and allowing the authors to use their own personal headcanons as "official" word ─ it's also ironic to me that the people who keep throwing the books in fans' faces are typically the same type to say only what's shown on screen is reliable source material and not the creator's external confirmations
anyway, i got off-topic a little bit, my apologies!
also, you didn't mention it, but while i do like catradora, i am more than happy to criticize SPOP where it's necessary. it's not perfect; no series is. it certainly could've handled some topics + characters better and that's okay to admit its flaws. i can find a balance between defending and questioning my interests and it makes me neither more of a stan nor an anti.
K and D for the ask game
For K its Kieran easy /j
Actually remove that /j, the silly pokemon boy has made us so genuinely happy the past few months that we have to say him for this; changed our life in such a good way (and we met you and so many other awesome people bc of him too so!)
And for D… probably drawing! We love doing it because it’s fun and also because we can make other people happy with it! Or draw something angsty and break them lol!
Yooo I didn't know you liked Little Shop of Horrors! Same here!
(I'm actually in the musical for my school, I'm just part of the ensemble, but hey, I don't mind.)
Yeah, I do! I like all three versions of the story, actually! (The quickly made 1960 movie, the musical I can't remember the year for, & the 1986 movie adaptation of the musical!)
For the few theatre things I've done in my life (mostly school-related ones), I always loved being in the ensemble! It's always fun to be one of the little guys that makes up all the guys on stage! If I were ever able to be a part of a production again, I'd be begging to be part of the ensemble, personally! I hope you're able to have fun (& remember the lyrics!)
I've got the 1986 movie on DVD, as well as a little Audrey II from Etsy (pictured below!) They sit on my desk beside my photo scanner, currently! This picture is from a few years ago when I first got 'em!
