Got into a discussion about emergency response at a professional retreat recently and everyone was going on and on about agility, and I was like, "Okay but what about contingency?"

And they were like "What?"

And I was like, "Agility isn't the ultimate form of preparedness. Contingency is. Agility still requires you to flounder and figure out a solution in the moment, but if you have a contingency plan, all you have to do is implement it."

And they were like "But you can't make contingency plans for every situation!"

And I was like, "Yeah, you basically can if you just identify all of your basic dependencies and contingency plan around the loss of any dependency," and then I gave a few examples.

And they all stared at me like I'm an alien.

Anyway, that's how I figured out I'm Batman-coded and also learned how Batman must feel talking to supposedly professional superheroes who never bothered to run disaster scenarios until I pointed out that it's insane that they don't already have a plan for if Superman turns evil.

There’s a phrase that really stuck in my head around this. It was from one of the British divers who enacted the Thai caving rescue, though I couldn’t tell you which one or which interview.

As he described to the interviewer a moment of panic and how he he overcame, the interviewer said, in one of those, summarise-last-answer-given-with-appropriate-levels-of-respect-in-order-to-proceed-to-next-question phrasing’s, “Wow, so you rose to the occasion -“

And the diver said, “No, actually people always get that exactly wrong. In an unexpected and urgent situation you don’t rise to the occasion. You sink to the level of your training.”

Medieval Banjo (Nude) | (they/them) | Clip Studio Paint EX

Here’s a medieval-inspired portrait of my little cat-bird beast, Banjo!

I started teaching myself how to draw similarly to how some of the art around the 14th century or so looks! Specifically, I want to replicate the funky looking, mostly flat art where a lot of the animals looked really funny & maybe not that accurate to how the animal actually looks!

Here's the simple fullbody piece I made of Gwendolyn to use for the Oddities Shop illustration!

I originally drew this back in 2024, right before Artfight that year. After that, I was able to start working on the full piece! I recently updated their arm, (& thus, updated this simple version here too) since it originally didn't look as good as I knew I could make it!

Tombstone In The Moonlight (2.0) | (they/them) | Clip Studio Paint EX

And here's the bloody version of this illustration I redid a little since I redesigned Tombstone recently!

I also redid some of the blood on their face, neck, chest, & belly! Hopefully, I made it look a bit more realistic than it did before by making the blood of their victims a bit more runny looking! (I actually wanted the blood to look more realistic on/in their fur, like it soaked in a bit, but I have no idea how to do that! Since their redesign makes them more seal-like & I've since canonized that they like swimming, I think I like the idea of their fur being hydrophobic!)

Since I redesigned Tombstone recently, it only made sense to redo them the digital illustration I made of the back in April of 2023 too!

I actually had to make this version second, & made the bloody version first! It's because the bloody one has multiple things added to it & to avoid redrawing anything, I just did the bloody one first & erased those things for this more peaceful/clean version of the piece!

Sir Callie, Book 1, Court Kids Lineup | Clip Studio Paint EX

I almost forgot to share! With my interpretations of the Court Kids from Sir Callie complete (at least, the base Book 1 versions anyway… 👀), here’s all of their fullbodies together (adjusted a bit to get their heights about right!)

Additionally, I have a version with some height lines behind the kids since Callie & Edwyn aren't standing at their full heights!

(The lines measure to their hair instead of their scalps, btw!)

Sir Callie and the Champions of Helston, Chapter 15, Page 171 | Part 1

I’ve been wanting to try making comics for YEARS now, & FINALLY got around to cleaning up one of my MANY notecard thumbnails; this one adapting a piece of what’s probably my favorite chapter in Book 1 of Sir Callie!

A ton of work went into this (so many little details!) & I learned so much! I hope to make more comics now that this first try at one has taught me so much (& was so much fun)!

This is part 1 of, maybe, 6? We’ll see if I do more!

Finally! Page 2 (of 6?) of the Book 1, Chapter 15, Sir Callie comic is done!

It’s very fitting I managed to finish this part in time for Valentine’s Day, haha! I had so much fun drawing all the Elowens, I’m not sure which one is my favorite! My favorite Callie has to be the 2nd one, though; very proud of how their expression turned out!

I focused more on trying to make really simple lineless backgrounds for this one, & I think I did a really good job!

I’ve been meaning to make a non-binary themed piece, & was inspired to make it with my blorbo, Callie from the Sir Callie series! One day, I’ll hopefully make more of these (with more of the Sir Callie cast &/or my own characters); this one turned out so cute!!!

Their pose is based on a headcanon I have; I don't know why, but I've always felt like Callie would do a little salute-like wave instead of a normal friendly wave hello! (They're just too cool for it or something, idk.)

I was hesitant to reblog this since Pinterest is famous for almost never having any credit and being stolen works, but this is a seriously great reference from what I looked at for anyone wanting to draw fat people. There are numerous sections for different fashion styles, and that's usually impossible to find. So I'm making an exception this single time and reblogging this.

There's not a lot of content of fat men, but there is some. There are also pictures of queer couples, drag queens, historical photos, etc.

Another art reference for poses with fat bodies is the website FatPhotoRef run by @lawlesslagomorph who carefully vets the people who ask for access to the website in order to ensure that none of the fat people who have volunteered photos of themselves will be abused. Donations help keep the website running too!
