So, I’ve only had Lily Tora-Asi and Arkoff for four pages, but if anything happened to them, I will kill everyone in this room and then myself.
But also I really love the nod to how Jedi have to find a balance between how much of the galaxy’s agony they feel, as sentient people with emotions and as literal psychic empaths who are bombarded with people’s feelings. Both the High Republic Jedi Order and the prequels Jedi Order have struggled with this at times, hell even as far back A New Hope, Obi-Wan seems mentally bombarded by all the deaths he feels on Alderaan, the millions of voices screaming out that he can hear.
You can’t let yourself feel all of that all of the time, because then you’re not actually helping anyone, you have to develop ways to keep yourself stable in the middle of it, to be able to keep moving, that’s true for literal any lifestyle that deals with tragedy on a regular basis, and it’s true for psychic wizards, too.
And further I’m crying because, whatever else we may or may not say about The Last Jedi, “We are what they grow beyond.” has always been true, the Jedi have always said this. You see it in The Phantom Menace versus Revenge of the Sith, that’s the whole theme of Qui-Gon says, “You are a much wiser man than I am.”
This is what the Jedi want, this is what they have wanted in every incarnation they have ever been in--to go further than their Master and for their own Padawan to go further than them.
AND TO SEE IT IN THE HIGH REPUBLIC AS WELL, I’M JUST GONNA CRY ABOUT JEDI AND HOW MUCH I LOVE THEM.
