DETROIT TIGER

In 1894 Detroit was a charter member of baseball's Western League. Often referred to as the "Tigers," the nickname for the Detroit Light Guard military unit, the Detroit @Tigers played its first major league game in 1901 in the brand new @AmericanLeagueBaseball and over the last 120 years the tiger has become a cherished symbol of the city, all the more revered as the city fought its way back from decades of adversity. In 2017 the @1xrun curated @MuralsintheMarket festival invited Arlin Graff to participate and he added this Gratiot Ave mural on the outskirts of @EasternMarket. Brazilian-born Graff grew up playing with wood scraps and when he discovered painting he quickly developed a form of deconstructionism, "giving life to his abstract creations." @arlin_graff/

SAN JOAQUIN KIT FOX

The smallest member of the dog family in North America, 90 years ago the secretive 5 lb San Joaquin Kit Fox thrived in the grasslands of California's Central Valley. On the endangered species list since 1967 their numbers continue to wane despite protection efforts and today they are one of the state's most threatened animal populations. In 2019 Brazilian-born artist Arlin brought his unique graphic art—inspired by a childhood love of blocks and assembling things in his father's woodshed—to Bakersfield, California and created this fox mural for @TemblorBrewing and neighboring Buck Owens Blvd entertainment and dining establishment, @BLVDBakersfield. @arlin_graff/
