Writing Prompt 396
“X, I need a word.” X looked up from their desk, heartrate spiking at the sound of their name from Y. They had been trying hard to avoid Y’s attention. Worse, Y was holding the phone they had been using to send messages to the resistance. Behind Y there were a dozen armed guards.
I miss Lalo
The US regime is:
Killing its own people.
Mobilizing armed guards to oppress peaceful riots.
Arresting and targeting journalists.
Threatening to shoot at pro-democracy protests.
Assaulting unarmed citizens.
Those are the same reasons the US uses to invade the Middle East.
Idaho School District to Add Armed Guards for Safety
Idaho School District to Add Armed Guards for Safety
An Idaho school district plans to have armed guards at each of their 11 schools, in addition to the two School Resource Officers already assigned. Lakeland School District will start with their first hiring for Athol Elementary this summer. But it’s not just because Idaho is more Conservative – it’s because it takes too long for police to get to the schools.
Athol Elementary is over 21 miles from…

The “March For Our Lives” crowd, while simultaneously protesting how guns (even in the hands of armed guards) make people unsafe and fear for their lives, had armed guards and escorts to keep themselves safe and feeling protected during the march.
I can’t.
Stricter gun control will save lives, perhaps thousands per year.
When the 2nd Amendment was written, slavery was legal, African-Americans counted as 3/5s a person, and only white, Protestant, land-owning men could vote. Perhaps, as we have amended these historic wrongs, we can also enact more sensible gun control laws that have been shown all over the world to drastically reduce mass murders by gun. The majority of Americans are in favor with stricter background checks, higher age restrictions, longer waiting periods, closing gun show loopholes, etc.
Cars vs Guns: An automobile's purpose is transportation, whereas gun's are death. When people die from automobiles, we generally call them accidents because they are not general meant to be used as a murderous weapons; when people die from guns, whether murder or self-defense, it is generally *not* an accident.
Cruz in Parkland, FL was definitely disturbed, and I agree that the FBI should have looked harder at him, but this problem goes far beyond Cruz. It has been going on for 20 years, since Columbine, escalating exponentially in the last few years. I don't see any answer except stricter gun control. Mental health is a problem all over the world. Are we to believe that Americans are SO much more mentally disturbed than the rest of the world that we lead the '1st world' in gun violence by a substantial margin, or couldn't it actually be the guns, and how easy they are to get? In other '1st world' countries with stricter gun control, there is a *significantly* lower number of gun deaths, so the logical answer clearly points to stricter gun control.
It could seem that armed guards would be a solution, but Stoneman Douglas school in Parkland, FL and Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL had armed guards and mass gun murders were not stopped. Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas had many armed guards and that was the worst mass gun murder in US History. Fort Hood is a *military base* and still was victim to a mass gun murder. Heck, Ronald Reagan was surrounded by Secret Service and was still shot. So clearly, armed, trained security personnel are not the answer either, and arming teachers, who have enough of a hard job as it is, doesn't seem to be an improvement if armed security guards cannot even handle the task.
At this point, the only logical solution to reducing mass murders via guns is to enact stricter gun control measures. There is ample evidence from around the world that it will help, and most Americans want it. I hope you will read this and at least consider it. I'm not talking about making guns illegal, just harder to get, in the interest of saving thousands of American lives per year. Good day :)
So apparently Texas passed a law allowing armed guards in churches
Because that can only end well
