Remember them.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

"Therefore, in the realities of the capitalist system, and not in the banal philistine fantasies of English parsons... 'inter-imperialist' or 'ultra-imperialist' alliances, no matter what form they may assume, whether of one imperialist coalition against another, or of a general alliance embracing all the imperialist powers, are inevitably nothing more than a 'truce' in periods between wars. Peaceful alliances prepare the ground for wars, and in their turn grow out of wars; the one conditions the other, producing alternating forms of peaceful and non-peaceful struggle on one and the same basis of imperialist connections and relations within world economics and world politics. But in order to pacify the workers and reconcile them with the social-chauvinists who have deserted to the side of the bourgeoisie, [a defender of the alliance system] separates one link of a single chain from another, separates the present peaceful (and ultra-imperialist, nay, ultra-ultra-imperialist) alliance of all the powers for the 'pacification' of China (remember the suppression of the Boxer Rebellion) from the non-peaceful conflict of tomorrow, which will prepare the ground for another 'peaceful' general alliance for the partition, say, of Turkey, on the day after tomorrow, etc., etc.” - Vladimir Lenin, State and Revolution
“ Oh how do you do, young Willy McBride Do you mind if I sit here down by your graveside And rest for a while in the warm summer sun I've been walking all day, and I'm nearly done And I see by your gravestone you were only nineteen When you joined the great fallen in 1916 Well I hope you died quick And I hope you died clean Or Willy McBride, was it slow and obscene Did they beat the drums slowly Did they play the fife lowly Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down Did the band play the last post and chorus Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest And did you leave a wife or a sweetheart behind In some loyal heart is your memory enshrined And though you died back in 1916 To that loyal heart you're forever nineteen Or are you a stranger without even a name Forever enshrined behind some old glass pane In an old photograph torn, tattered, and stained And faded to yellow in a brown leather frame Did they beat the drums slowly Did they play the fife lowly Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down Did the band play the last post and chorus Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest The sun shining down on these green fields of France The warm wind blows gently and the red poppies dance The trenches have vanished long under the plow No gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing now But here in this graveyard that's still no mans land The countless white crosses in mute witness stand To man's blind indifference to his fellow man And a whole generation were butchered and damned Did they beat the drums slowly Did they play the fife lowly Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down Did the band play the last post and chorus Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest And I can't help but wonder oh Willy McBride Do all those who lie here know why they died Did you really believe them when they told you the cause Did you really believe that this war would end wars Well the suffering, the sorrow, the glory, the shame The killing and dying it was all done in vain Oh Willy McBride it all happened again And again, and again, and again, and again Did they beat the drums slowly Did they play the fife lowly Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down Did the band play the last post and chorus Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest”

I met these guys a few years ago when I was doing portraits for the Veterans Day parade. They had seen the absolute worst of humanity. We’re lucky to have them. #veteransday #armisticeday100 #honor https://www.instagram.com/p/BqDgv6NA__A/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=spbcqy66gd3q
I’m sending a special thanks to all who have served at home or abroad in times of war. My family has a long history of military service dating back to the Revolutionary War. My dad was a reservist during Vietnam, but two of my uncles served in the jungles of that far away land. My grandfather captained B-25s in the Mediterranean Theater in WW2, while Tristan’s grandpa saw action at the Battle of the Bulge and Normandy. Tristan’s dad is a veteran of Desert Storm. One of my cousins has served in Afghanistan. Needless to say, our veterans of every generation deserve our thanks for their devotion and sacrifice. As today marks 100 years since the signing of the armistice ending The Great War, I hope we can take a moment to reflect and give thanks. #VeteransDay2018🇺🇸 #armisticeday100 https://www.instagram.com/p/BqDLKgaBxtF/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=xfd1ypmp3k1c
