While I’m on my angry blacksmith rants, it’s not chainmail, it’s mail (or maille depending on how historical you are). If you call it chainmail, you are calling it chain chain armour. Do yourself a favour and please stop embarrassing yourself, then go look at spanglehelms with a mail coif.
I was late to back this project on Kickstarter, but I’ve just ordered my copy :) so thrilled! Get yours from Master Armourer Albert Collins @via_armorari trough albertcollins.se ! #masterpiece #armouring #armour #viaarmorari (w: Warsaw, Poland) https://www.instagram.com/p/CI2ccalHpv0/?igshid=kuf9u9utoui3
Lord Xerus Does Stuff: A Shoulder to GRIND On
Just imagine for a second that my winter jacket is a gambeson. Pretty neat, ey?
I’m a few hours deep into dishing this breast plate, and I’m really starting to feel the shape! Soon I’ll be able to start planishing and getting the safety edges going
thinking about making a cuirass but i can’t decide
should i make one that is normal probortions, the that ends at my waist
or should i make one that is super high waisted and could only be worn if a super high waisted doublet and breaches to not look silly
on the one hand, normal proportions would be more versatile
on the other hand, the super high waisted one would make me look just like people in paintings of the time
i only have the materials to make one cuirass, not both
i would not really call myself a perfectionist, this doesn’t mean i don’t put effort into my art and stuff, but i don’t stress over getting a technically perfect result, as long as it turns out how i wanted it to, the smaller details don’t matter a lot
with armour for example, i really like slightly wobbly lines and some leftover hammering marks and scars after polishing, but i try to make the overall result a quality thing, functional and fitted well and well shaped but maybe not plannished to perfection “neat” everywhere
with sewing, if it fits good and has the overall vibe and silhouette that i was aiming for then i am happy, and if it has some wonky construction or wobbly seams or not tightly enough stitched button holes, its fine! because it will hold well and for everyone seeing it it will look good, only if you get really close and start inspecting it you will start seeing mistakes. so as long as there aren’t any major tailoring mistakes (or differences from how i wanted it to be) then it’s good
with music, especially the harmonica playing, i just go and hope for the best, some stuff isn’t very good and some stuff turns out good, and when playing existing songs, if i play wrong but it sounds fine and not too out of place, that’s just an artistic choice!
with writing however, i truly am a perfectionist, this doesn’t stop me from trying a little, but I’ve never really written anything i’m very happy with at all. most of the time i sit down to write i write like 3 lines and then can’t think of anything else, then rewrite it almost, fully and delete half of it and at the end i come out with half a line that i’m kinda ok with. this goes for both lyrics and fiction
and idk why i am like this with writing but nothing else, but it doesn’t stop me from trying at least
