October 2007, Rolex watches celebrated the 60th anniversary of Charles Chuck Yeager achievement of breaking the sound barrier on October 14, 1947. As Air Corps Captain Yeager took the Bell X1 rocket plane beyond buffeting transonic phenomena, he became the first to create a sonic boom over Muroc Army Airfield, nowadays Edwards AFB in California. In fact, reaching Mach 1 and breaking the sound barrier took place over Victorville but the event was kept secret untill June 1948. Since the 1950s Chuck Yeager has been wearing Rolex pilot watches, the GMT-master Pepsi being his favorite. (Photo: Rolex Magazine)
