I started writing for this series last January, with no intent to actually finish it. As with most things I don't intend to finish, it eventually consumed my every thought until I had no choice but to spend a year and a half writing the damn thing. Now that it's finally all finished and posted, I'm very glad I did.
(Breakdown of individual fics below the cut)
Smoke and Mirrors (52K words, 11 chapters)
“If we want the truth from him, he needs to feel safe enough to speak truthfully,” said Gabriel. “Now, I know what you’re thinking: ‘The traitor couldn’t possibly feel safe while he’s in Heaven for interrogation!’ And you’d be right.” His grin widened. “But—this is where it gets really good—he won’t even know that’s where he is.”
(Aziraphale is imprisoned in Heaven, but breaks free thanks to Crowley’s help. On Earth, Crowley wakes up from his pandemic nap to find Aziraphale missing. Meanwhile, two angels watch an imaginary life unfold, with all the time in the world to wait for the answers they need.)
Reality Check (51K words, 12 chapters)
Every muscle in Crowley’s body clenched as the previous day came rushing back. Not a dream. Aziraphale was real, solid, and alive. He was here, he was back, he was…
He was currently making himself a little too much at home in Crowley’s personal space.
(Aziraphale has unknowingly spent over a year on a simulated Earth, building a relationship with an imaginary version of Crowley. Crowley has spent that time alone, miserable, and unsure if he'd ever see his best friend again. Now together and safe once more, they learn how to navigate the new reality in which they find themselves.)
I Want to Break Free (19K words, 5 chapters)
Shemael is thrilled to finally transfer out of the oppressive celestial choir, but adjusting to their new job proves more difficult than they expected. When you’ve done the same thing for six thousand years, how do you learn to do something new?
Aromantic Crowley slithering vaguely downwards just in time for ASAW2021
In an alternate universe within my headspace Crowley is aromantic, and indeed, it was very good.
Medium: Acrylic on cardboard cut from used packaging material (turns out it’s nicer to paint on than gesso-primed canvas!)
Since I drew this together with my little cardboard pride flag, it’s got the same colours (save paint + 50% reduced effort in mixing) and the same story behind it as to why I’m not using the standard aromantic colours. Anyway, it’s done. I can’t undo acrylic like I do with photoshop. But I’m still satisfied - teal looks really good as highlights!
P/S: I know, I know. Shoddy brush and shaky hands. This thing gave me a headache trying to figure out which colour falls into which square. Lots of repainting happened - luckily I’m using acrylic eh?

moodboards ♡ aromantic crowley ♡ good omens (2019)
I had a thought which I’m going to try to articulate; hopefully it comes off the way I mean it to. In Good Omens fandom the idea “demons can’t love” comes up a reasonable amount. Typically this is brought up to either be dismissed as completely inaccurate or is true but Crowley is some sort of weird exception.
You know who else doesn’t feel love or any emotions whatsoever? Data from Star Trek TNG. For those who don’t know Data is an android who is incapable of feeling emotions. Despite that over the course of the seven season Data forms close bonds with many other people aboard the Enterprise including, but certainly not limited to as this is just off the top of my head: being best friends with Geordi, doting on his cat Spot, keeping a memento to remember a deceased crew mate that he was close to, standing at Troi’s bedside and holding her hand while she gives birth, serving as the “father of the bride” for Keiko and O’Brien’s wedding, being a supportive and attentive father to his daughter, and in one episode he even had a girlfriend. Data doesn’t feel emotions, but he does have preferences and people and things that are important to him, and the show doesn’t treat his way of “feeling” as being unreal or invalid.
So I was thinking, what if demons and by extension Crowley really can’t feel love? Maybe Crowley is aro or maybe he doesn’t feel any sort of love at all. But he still has preferences and things that he likes. He still considers Aziraphale to be the most important being to him and prefers it when Aziraphale is happy. He still wants a relationship with Aziraphale that is functionally identical to a romantic one.
Aziraphale, who absolutely does feel romantic love for Crowley is overjoyed by this. He doesn’t feel it’s a compromise or settling for what he can get. Aziraphale might not understand the way Crowley feels about him anymore than Crowley understands (romantic) love, but they both know that the way the other feels is powerful and important and valid and they are both happy to meet the other on their level.
I love aspec Aziraphale and Crowley a whole lot, but in response to the ‘don’t call the show queerbaiting - it’s aspec rep!’ posts I see (I’ve also seen it about enby rep, but I’m cis so I’ll leave that to others) I’d like to say I don’t see the show or the book as ‘true’ aspec rep. We weren’t given aspec Aziraphale and Crowley, we found them, we took them, we made them, out of what was there.
While I’m grateful to neilman (and Terry Pratchett of course) for the story we chose to interpret for ourselves, we shouldn’t credit media for including rep until it actually does.
Keep being loud and proud about our aspec headcanons, make it obvious this is something we really want to see on the screen and the page, and keep pushing for much-needed aspec representation!
