HOW DO YOU SORT THE FMA CHARACTERS I NEED TO KNOW
In reference to this personality typing system
I’ve been thinking about this since you sent it to me because I have sorted them before but then I looked at my sortings and was like “no nevermind these are wrong” but did I ever figure out what was right???? Who knows. I’m overdue for a rewatch but this was still harder than I expected @ y’all please discuss this with me
Ed: Gryffindor Primary and Slytherin secondary???? I actually totally just wrote this long explanation for why he has a Gryff secondary, then was like “no that’s wrong” and wrote one about why he has a Ravenclaw secondary, and then realized that it was a Slytherin. I sort Ed straight up as a Ravenclaw so I’m a little *eyes emoji* about him not having Ravenclaw in his type at all here. So obviously Ed is always rash and ready to jump into a fight (which lead me to Gryff) but he can definitely come up with plans/traps when he needs/wants to (exposing Cornello, trying to trap Gluttony, his fight with Lan Fan, even trying to resurrect Trisha seems fairly Ravenclaw to me) (leading me to Ravenclaw) but the answer here is that it’s because he’s an improviser. He acts impulsively but he is capable of coming up with plans and ideas on the fly, even if he rarely deeply considers them beforehand. Also haven’t seen 03 recently enough to speak on this in depth but I’m pretty sure I would consider 03!Ed as having a stripped Gryffindor primary, which I think ultimately ends up being the main different between 03!Ed and Broho!Ed
Al: Hufflepuff primary, Gryffindor secondary. I don’t have a lot to say here I feel like the Puff primary is pretty straight forward and I’m flexible on the secondary but that definitely seems to me the way Al approaches action most often; he’s deeply moral but also quick to act and won’t back away from a fight if it’s something he thinks is important.
Winry: Hufflepuff primary, Ravenclaw secondary. Winry places a big emphasis on fairness (ex. basically the whole Rush Valley episode up until the baby thing) and I think has maybe the strongest sense of community in the show, as well as an ability to create it wherever she goes (with the Elrics, with the Hugheses, even in her appearance in the Briggs arc) hence the primary and idk just seeing her talk about automail at all makes me think she’s a Ravenclaw secondary bc goddamn if that girl does not love to meticulously plan shit out
Roy: Hufflepuff primary (HEAR ME OUT), Slytherin secondary. OK so Hufflepuff and Roy Mustang are not words I thought I’d be using in conjunction with each other but if you look at Roy’s motives for joining the military in the Another Man’s Battlefield OVA, it’s totally Puff primary stuff, completely stemming from valuing and wanting to protect his country (community) above all else. He joins the military because he has the idea that he’s going to be able to protect people and make the world a better place. After Ishval, when he’s basically utterly failed to do that and basically accomplished the exact opposite, he becomes completely driven to rectify that. Not to mention the bonding to groups thing is totally him and Team Mustang. He absolutely performs a Slytherin primary though. The Slytherin secondary is self explanatory lol
Riza: Gryffindor primary, Hufflepuff secondary. I had so much trouble with her??? I almost went Slytherin primary because of her loyalty to Roy, but Riza’s whole character is driven by the the fact that she betrayed her deepest moral sense of what is right and wrong and her need to fix that. Even following Roy is ultimately about the fact that she trusts him to be the closest to enacting what she thinks is the right thing to do, not because of personal loyalty. We know Riza is a hard worker, and the “They have a steadiness that can make them the lynchpin (though not usually the leader) of a community.” part of the Puff secondary description seemed ESPECIALLY Riza to me
Ling: Slytherin primary, Slytherin secondary. Was a little torn about the primary but I think this probably fits him best (it’s also TOTALLY Greed’s primary lol). Ling’s number one loyalty is to his clan and especially Lan Fan and Fu so he’s mildly a total dick when he first meets the Elrics but later on they’re included in his loyalty system so we get him even going so far as offering Ed the Philospher’s Stone (the thing he’s been working the entire series to get) in the finale so he can bring Al back.
Lan Fan: Slytherin primary, Gryffindor secondary. I feel like this is fairly self explanatory. From what we’ve seen, Lan Fan’s main priorities are Ling and Fu and if anyone messes with that, she absolutely does not hesitate to act immediately, to the point where Ed is able to use this intersection of her primary and secondary against her in their fight
